Cryptic Quiz

Postby Rorschach on Sat Apr 21, 2012 10:42 am

It's for charidee. Fancy helping? We're not doing much else, let's be fair.

All the answers are surnames of authors, poets and composers.

The prize is a bottle of champagne and a twenty quid Thornton's voucher. So, y'know, you'd be getting me loads of Brownie points.

1. Wayward tee shot?

2. A facial feature surrounds the operation.

3. About seven tons?

4. Sounds like "Good King Wenceslas"

5. Tangle?

6. Seems like an untidy woman.

7. A German mug with a North English stream (Steinbrook? Am I making that name up?)

8. Sounds like raquet sport is to be played.

9 A sword throw confused him.

10. Worse than his bite? (Bach?)

11. A native to a T.

12. A wizard in a vehicle going backwards.

13. Streams north of the border (Burns)

14. Mixed up about lass.

15. Sickened, confused and lost direction.

16. This sort of plant can live outdoors all winter.

17. Sounds like a fellow rather than a woman is told to go away.

18. One has to lie to work out this answer.

19. Much pink and red are needed to design this fellow.

20. The early bird isn't out.

21. Wee Ronald's inside gamble is out of order.

22. The end of music is included in the composition of 'My Trance'.

23. An Englishman enjoys minced steak. (Keats)

24. I hear he had a problem with his foor.

25. Sounds as if he should be turned. (Handel)

I hate this kind of thing but it seems you Britons love it.

I think 8 is Lord Alfred Tennyson
'What is morality?'
'Judgment to distinguish right and wrong, vision to see the truth, courage to act upon it, dedication to that which is good, integrity to stand by the good at any price.'

1) Isn't a wayward tee shot a "slice"? I don't know what artist that might be, though.
7) You misspelled Steinbeck.
10) I think you can take the question mark off of Bach.
16) Plant that can live outdoors in winter... Evergreen, or some synonym?
19) Is there a famous artist named Valentine?

Keep them coming, folks. You'll get me laid yet.

I didn't think 7 was Steinbeck. Google says a 'beck' is a Northern English stream though, so good jerb.

20. The early bird isn't out.

I think is Piet Worm, author of Three Little Horses.

3. About seven tons?

Is an elephant. So would that be the name or could it be the subject? For example you could go Elephant Man who did an autobiography or Water for Elephants os a famous book, you would use the author.

Could a composer also be modern music? Cage the Elephant is a band.

"A slice" is a wayward tee shot off to the right. A "hook" is a wayward tee shot off to the left. I can't think of a famous author/artist/musician named Hook off the top of my head, but it seems like a good guess.
