"No."
Zukka cut over Julie's mumbling. He used the first few attempts to try and compose his words, some way to make it seem right, make it easy to swallow, but he felt that he couldn't tell a big enough lie, especially not one that would hold up, and this was a truth that couldn't be made comfortable. He grabbed some cloth, whatever he could get his hands on, and tried to fashion a sling. Garret was alive. There was hope for others! They had to go look, but they couldn't first abandon him in the process..
"No. Too many people are not okay. We were attacked by something. Some things. And then the town blew up."
With the sling hopefully done, he went to move closer and hope that Garrit would take it.
"Everyone's not okay, but since seeing you, Garrit, we know some are."
At least he had words for every situation. Maybe if he talked enough he could put up a big enough barrier, he could burn those words for the fuel to keep going, and drag the rest along.
"We need to go make sure others are, too."
There was hope in his voice, but it was distant, strained. Hope, for Julie, for Chiyome, for people in general - but his family was dead. If he wasn't staggering from tonight he'd probably be bitter.
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."
"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."
