Post Your Stupid Questions- Tech Version

Good job not explaining the situation and instead asking a very specific question.

The answer is to get a wireless repeater, preferably with a high gain antenna if it turns out to be necessary.

I too thought I did an admirable job ;)

Hmmm, might have to look into the wireless repeater function of my router then, though I'd probably need to replace it's current antenna with something a bit more manly.

Again, do you know if it would be possible to share the internet it's receiving via a LAN connection to another computer on the network, but ONLY this one computer and none of the others?

If you limit access to the LAN through a passkey situation, that should automatically happen.

A more important question, why are you trying to mooch off someone else's LAN network?

Yeah, the owner of the router would set a passkey, and then give it out to people he wants to let access his network.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. My cable has been out for 3 weeks. I would cancel it but they're pretty much the only service provider in my neighborhood that can deliver speeds faster than 768kbit...Even then I'm seriously considering cancelling it just because I'm tired of dealing with it. American infrastructure generally sucks donkey balls once you get out of the major cities.
I'm putting my talents and skills to use for a business so that I receive compensatory funds that I may then choose to spend and invest and save as I see fit. If I choose to blow it all on hookers and Dr. Seuss books, I don't see how that means you owe me a comfortable retirement. - Deacon

That's because DSL/phone lines have a theoretical maximum data rate of only 40 Mbit, whereas cable lines can support up to 100 Mbit in residential networks.

Also, isn't Australia working on a government-sponsored FTTP network? It will probably be a boondoggle to get going - government inrastructure setups usually are - but once finished, the internet would actually be somewhat faster locally there. Might cancel out the delay from being so far away from everyone else.

Yeah, we are, and it'll apparently be pretty kick-ass once it's finally setup (in, like, 2015 or something) and that's assuming some jerk of a politician doesn't try to have it canceled because he considers it "government wastage".

Anyone have a recommendation for a really good QR and/or Barcode reader iPhone App? I don't care if it's free or if I have to pay for it.

Mobio and AT&T Scanner both work well.

Mobio also serves as a virtual wallet and lets you pay at participating places that use thier service, but it will scan and process any QR Code.

AT&T's scanner is just that a scanner with no frills.

Both are free.

Ok, when I put my speakers at a really low volume, close to "0" on the dial, I get this weird "tapping" noise. Is that normal?

Yes. It's the pulsation of the current going through the speakers. You can get the same effect if your phone can not call out and all you hear is the electrical current running from the power source through your cord.

I really hate CenturyLink. How the hell did they take over Seattle?

Yeah, I mean I knew that the current had an effect - but I didn't realize it would be quite so... audible. I guess I just expected it to be a low volume

They bought out Qwest. Now, they just need to merge with Verizon and AT&T, keep the name AT&T, and we're back to 1982.

I know this topic was touched on a bit a couple of months ago but I need more detail. I got a new computer, I networked it to my old computer and transferred my files. Unfortunately a portion of my fairly large(800+) music library would not transfer. I kept getting messages saying files were in use or I didn't have admin rights to it. I didn't have the free time to mess with it so I ended up transferring what I could. What I would like to do is transfer what is on my ipod touch back to my new computer. Not only are the lost files an issue but I had finally gotten everything straight on my ipod (correct song name, artist, album cover etc) and I don't want to have to start from scratch. I see a lot of pay software to transfer from ipod to pc. Has anyone used any of them that they would recommend and even better does someone know of a free way to do it?
