Hey someone (probably Liz),
My cock getting in the way again, I cannot gain entry to the tinkling-fountained, bejewelled-cushioned pleasure palace that is the Girls' forum. All soft moans behind silken curtains and delicate perfumes filling the air.
Where was I? Oh yes - is there a baby thread in there?

Is it about just the babies, or are mothers talking about their chafed nipples and such?
I'll tell you why I'm asking: the reintro thread has made me think that there are many more fathers than I expected on RLF and I, for one, would like a baby thread (although not exclusively for the guys).
Is the other one exportable? Have I just made that process up? Or do you think a new one in general would be shunned by the ladies as they already have one?

Nah, you can make a new thread and the ladies would probably use that more than the one in the girl talk. It is probably one of the lesser used threads in there so I doubt anyone would care. Plus, who cares what the ladies shun? Let the fathers stand proud!

Also why don't we have a boys-only forum?

Yeah, that was the problem. :P I will do.

Two reasons:
We're a terribly tacit people. We'd just stand about, clearing our throats occasionally and avoiding any personal subjects whatsoever.

And:

We'd just end up bumming each other.

Hey, whoa... I wasn't talking about THAT kind of boys-only club!

You're right. I could probably scp it across.

There was a huge thing about a boys-only forum a few years ago. Pretty much, it came down to the fact that men just don't have any reason for one. I mean... are you going to talk about the lump on your penis? Or how your pubes grow curly or straight? Probably not. So guys don't need it.

Girls LOVE to talk about some really disgusting things, so it's really just protection for you guys.

My understanding was basically that we talk about what we want in the forum main, anyway.

Also, some guys are veterans of /b/ and need no such protection!

Also also, that thread was frickin' hilarious.

Whatever happens, this posting delay thing continues to chafe, and it gets more annoying as time progresses. Will the move to the new server fix that?

And Arc, it's not about protecting us from them, as though menstrual blood or whatever is that big a deal. It's more about them being shy and not wanting to post in front of god and everybody. It's in their nature to keep secrets and titter away in little cliques as they talk about boys and rainbows and stickers...

First of all, PENIS isn't exactly art. It's just random pictures of forumers and sometimes some of their stuff. Secondly, why can't some Photoshop contest that never happens be in General? It's not that big a deal, I guess is what I'm saying.

HEALTH? Meh. I'm not really sure it serves much of a purpose, either. Whatever. Not the end of the world, I guess. I'd just rather create it if it eventually became legitimately needed than have it hanging around just in case.

First of all, I would like to see the PENIS thread gone. It would be nice to have individual threads with people's photos and places to comment on them without feeling like the thread is being derailed. Just because it's not art doesn't mean that it can't go into another area. I personally don't like the title "Arts & Letters" because it has such a narrow point of view, but I would like to see all photos (artistic or not) be in there so that they can be easily chatted upon.

Remember that we're trying to steer away from the megathreads a bit. Some things need to be in a megathread... but some just don't. The photo thread is one of them.

I guess I don't really see the need for a "Pictures of Deacon" thread and 50 more for others, but whatever. It's unlikely to cause testicular torsion either way.

Megathreads do have a purpose, and I think it's not so much their existence but rather people being sticklers about using them and them only for any and all things vaguely related. I don't think there needs to be a new thread entitled "Today sucked" just to say, "Man, today sucked. I'm glad to be home and relaxing." On the other hand if I feel like I want to elaborate and talk about it at length, it should be ok to create a new thread for that, too.

I don't know. It just seems there's as much over-thinking about the alleged problem of megathreads as there was insistence upon sticking by them. It shouldn't be that hard. Why not just go with the flow and let people post what they want? Why does it have to be so controlled either way?

Probably for the same reason that you have a bug in your butt about the nudity rules.

In all fairness, we've noticed a decline. We've received complaints about the amount of megathreads. So adding 1+1 equals the idea of us trying to reduce the number of megathreads.

BUT, I've been wanting this change for YEARS now. I really want the artistic forums to become more active and I'd like people to have a place to post photos of their trips, or photography trials, or anything without feeling like they need to lump it into one thread. We could keep a "user" photo thread as well, but I don't want people to feel like they can't start a thread to brag about their baby or about their trip to Alaska or whatever. I also notice that many people will post something and then someone else will post something RIGHT afterwards and their post gets ignored.

Pretty much, it equates to us trying something out. If it doesn't work, then we'll try something else. :D
