I've just watched the actual movie. It's about as absurd as you would expect. Not to mention, badly acted with cheap special effects (seriously, a string of Christmas lights in involved). It's awesome.

That looks like something I'd have to endure.

It's like a B-grade horror movie, it's badness and absurdity is what makes it enjoyable. That, and ass katanas. "I strike a sexy pose and swords come out!"

Anything by Danny Boyle. Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, and Slumdog Millionaire are some famous ones. Shallow Grave is my favorite right now. He really has a good habit of translating the human condition onto film .

EDIT: Even the Beach, although that can be an exception to to the "Anything" umbrella.

Bubba Ho-Tep. Elvis (Bruce Campbell) and JFK (Ossie Davis) live in a retirement home and are called to action against a mummy that has been resurrected and is feeding on the souls of the residents of Shady Rest. I thought the movie was pretty touching throughout, and the camera work was pretty well done.

Escape from New York- Man, I don't care. I like Metal Gear: Solid and to see a movie of it makes me tingly with nostalgia.

1) Admittedly, my reasoning is flawed and I should watch it. It's just I shy away from well-publicized movies (snobby elitist fag speaking) and Inception especially struck me because the reviews prior to release were pretty much universal in saying that "the movie was good, but the public is too drugged up on ritalin to catch what is going on." Just seemed like a ploy they used so everyone would watch it and think they were sharp and insightful, which made me doubt it's authenticity. I should watch it though, because, without all the hullabaloo around it, the movie is about dreams which is a theme I like to explore, especially with movies. Plus, if I think it sucks, I can just pretend it's because my tastes are too well-refined to fall for such obvious pandering.

tl;dr I'm a film snob and I think all movies should be seen in poorly-kept art house theaters

2) Agreed. There should have been more surfing scenes.

I hear what you're saying. I really don't think it's a deep as everyone is making it out to be and it's really not hard to follow either. I enjoyed it, not because it was mind-bending or complex, but because it was entertaining.

Actually, btw you described it, I think I'll make it a point to watch it now. I was wary that it would suck because Christopher Nolan, I think, is getting close to burning out with all the Batman saturation and is now being given an exorbitant amount of monies to make any movie he wants, which doesn't usually bode too well for indie directors, but your description makes me think he used the dream storyline so he would have something to spend the money on without detracting from the meat of the film. Basically, a Micheal Bay blockbuster for those who want to bust Micheal Bay's blocks.

Note: By blocks, I mean testicles.
