Terra Nova

Postby Deacon on Wed Sep 28, 2011 8:26 pm

I watched the Terra Nova premier last night, and I just can't shake the feeling that I was watching one long video game cut scene cinematic. The writing and special effects were only about at the level of a video game, it set up many video game challenges, it set up video game like interactions between characters, and ALL of those main characters look like someone cosplaying video game characters.

I'll give it another episode or two, but it better get much better than "meh" quickly. Which is a shame, because Jason O'Mara starred in Life on Mars, and that was a great series that died way too quickly, and he was good in it. He deserves a little success. An epic network project with Spielberg's name on it probably sounded like just the ticket, but I hope it's not his ticket to selling used cars in Iowa.

PS Is it just me, or was the green screening of particularly terrible quality when Jim Shannon and Colonel Quaritch Commander Taylor are climbing that mountain and eventually standing on it? It was jarring.

Sorry, didn't watch it. Was turned off by the promotions for the show. I did hear part of the metaplot involved going to a period of time that was about to be destroyed by an asteroid. That got a lot of people upset, apparently.

I'm willing to put up with a lot for half way decent sci fi. I did think it would be a bit more polished, but hopefully it will get better as it goes. There was enough good that I will continue with it for now. I don't see any other offerings right now to fill that void of good sci fi.

Well, we'll see. I haven't canceled the series on my DVR yet. I might give it another couple of episodes.
