Awesome Craft Patterns and Discussion

Postby tnitnetny on Tue Aug 12, 2008 12:43 pm

As a break off from this: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=21286&view=unread#unread

Patterns from that thread are:

Mario Scarf
Goomba Hat
Chain Chomp Hat
Learn to knit
Mario Cross Stitch

Koe, I LOVE that Mario Cross Stitch and may make it myself as well. The only thing is there is no guide to the floss. I don't know what DMC colors to use. I guess I could print it out and go to the craft store and figure it out. If you make it, let me know what colors you use please.

Toni, load the pattern up in photoshop (or something similar) and get the RGB colour numbers. Then use this site to get the DMC thread numbers. :)

Right now I'm working on a DS cover for my sister (I'm leaning towards Bulbasaur on it, or something Mario themed). I'm working out a pattern now. I'm also considering a Wii "cosy" for my housemate with Mario Karts characters on them (pattern here). I'm going to modify it a little so that half will be on each side of the Wii and I'll make something up for the top.

This site has been my inspiration all day. I'm all fired up now.

Also, if you're interested here's what I'm currently working on. I started last November, its for Paul's mum.

Here's what I've done so far:

I estimate another month or so, depending if I can resist the temptation to start one of the other ones earlier.

I gets to go craft shopping tomorrow, because my mum kept all of our extra supplies when she moved. I no longer have bags of left over thread to steal from.

I love that Tree Skirt. I actually bought that same exact pattern about 2 years ago but haven't started it yet. I will take a picture of what I am working on now when I get home tonight.

I LOVE those Mario Kart Cosies. I think I am going to have to make those for Christmas presents. I haven't made anything before that I didn't just frame. How do I get that pattern into an actual cosie? I have seen the towels that I can put a pattern on, but I haven't seen any cosies. I assume I would have to make it.

Maybe I will just start with towels for the bathroom.

I forgot to add that I don't have Photoshop or any programs like that. I know, I am behind the times.

I found a knitting class only about 20 minutes from me on Sunday afternoons! I think I am going to sign up for classes in September.

Its an awesome tree skirt pattern, but the fabric is HUGE. Its quite a weight to lug around.

There is no pattern as such for the cosies - that's just a flat cross stitch someone did which I'm going to modify. Just going to take measurements of the Wii and make a simple cover from those. Once I figure it out I'll post it in here for ya. :)

Tnit, you can get it using paint. Open up the file in Paint, choose the "Pick Color" tool, pick you color, go to "Colors"::"Edit Colors"::"Define Custom Colors" and you will see the RGB codes in the lower right.

Awesome. Thanks Adciv.

I'll probably stop at the store Thursday or Friday and get the materials then. I decided to start with the t towels. By the time I finish them and the project I am currently working on, I'll be ready for your Cosy. I may even modify it and turn it into potholders.

I never learned how to sew or knit, or anything. But if I take these classes at the knitting place, I am sure someone could help me with my cross stitch and conforming it to potholders.

Koe, that chart was confusing me with picking colors so I did some research and found this one:

http://www.yarntree.com/075dmcolors.jpg

It categorizes it by colors. It is esy to pick out the best one from that.

Umm, Toni, the second link under this picture goes to the directions (with the DMC numbers included). He loaded the pattern and the directions up as too different word docs.

I was trying to match it for the Cosie, not the large Mario one. I decided to make Tea Towels with the Mario and Luigi carts on them. Instead of using the DMC chart you gave, I thought the one I found was easier to match colors. Or am I missing something else?

You mean, a cosy for the console itself? You might want to re-consider that, the last thing consoles need is to be warm. If you've ever felt the Wii when it's in standby it's already plenty warm.

Wow, that's just awesome. Though I would have gone for seed stitch borders on the top and bottom to prevent the curling problem she's now having issues with.

My new business card holder:

Now I want to make a pencil/scissors/random holder for my desk made from the mario 3 characters. I just have to find someone that has turned them into perler beads, or figure it out for myself.

I am still working on that butterfly cross stitch. I just haven't had a chance to post it. I may wait until it is finished. I was thinking of taking it with me this weekend.

Ok. I need to order more gray and black though. You don't need to pay me for it, just the shipping costs after it is already sent.

I will put an order in tonight for more beads and let you know when it is done. I also found a pattern for the pacman ghosts. I can't do my desk items holder until I get more beads in as well. I'll make that first in case you want one of those as well. ;)
