Opening day of rifle season for whitetail deer in Texas was today. Switched from the Mathews bow to the Remington .308 and ended up cashing in both my buck tags in the same day, a first for me. Now it's strictly meat in the feeder for me (does, no bucks).
First one walked by and he was really nice! Keep in mind this is the Texas hill country, where they don't get as massive as in deeper south Texas or in other parts of the country.
Morning:

Second one must've been the first one's big brother! Nice mature buck, one of the best wild bucks I've seen in the hill country with my own eyeballs (vs game cams or people showing off pics). Note the kicker.
Afternoon:

Lots of meat so far, and we had properly fresh backstrap grilled over charcoal and mesquite for dinner. The first one will go on my wall as a European mount while the second will be a full shoulder mount.
I consider it to be an early birthday present from Texas, partly in recognition for how much time and work and money I've put into preparing to be "lucky" in the right place at the right time.
