Welcome to the year 2025. The world has slowly gone from bad to worse, as multiple diseases, most prominent being the Neo-Bubonic Plague, ravage the Earth and kill off millions of people. Third world countries are all but decimated as the plagues rip through, while higher nations such as the US and Britain see a large drop in populations. In all countries, crime is at an all time high. Mafia men and prostitutes roam the streets in US cites, where the police number too few to make too much of a difference. Too few, or too apathetic to the cause of peace.

In addition, 1979 saw the birth of a new genus in the world. Hetero sapiens, or mutants, were found, and since then have caused and up roar in the world. Humans, normal humans, refer to these people with beyond normal abilities as ‘Second Comers’, or ‘Seconds’ for short. A law passed in the US now allows any Second to be shot on sight, regardless of actions that the Second is partaking in. There now circulate among the groups of Seconds stories of normal looking Seconds eating who were shot because people “suspected something.”

The World is dark, good and evil no longer divided by a clear cut line. People live and die here poorly, while others prosper. Mafia men versus hard working men. Human versus Second. Good versus Evil. Where are you in this?

Alright. I'm looking for 5-6 players to be placed in this rather dark and dismal setting. For anyone who was reading Ye Shall Be Jugded way back when, the setting will be, as you can see, similar. This is going to be a free form RP, so if you want to play, Just leave a post with the basics: "Ethnicity," Name, Appearence, History, Power outline if a Second, Contacts if Human. I would love if someone played a police officer for this, too.

Ethnicity: Second
Appearance: Groo is large, I mean very large. He stands roughly 8' tall and is about 4' at the shoulders. He has grey rocky skin which makes him very hard to hurt.
History: When Groo was born he was a large baby, but looked fairly normal. But as he grew older his skin started becoming very thick and hard. Eventually it seemed as though it were made of solid stone. Growing up, he could never learn properly. Even now, at the age of 24, he has about the intellect of a 3-4 year old. He was named Groo because that is the only word he ever really said. He can speak a few actual words, but Groo is the main thing you will hear him say. He has only managed to survive thus far due to his strength and his armor-like skin.
Power: Armor Skin, Great Strength

I'm gonna base my char on the assumption that this is the equivalent of the the post-apocolyptic X-man universe.

Name: Jharlan
Race: Second
Bio Stats: 5'7", 152lbs, blue eyes, black hair, 27 years old.
Power: Subconcious Suggestion. Not a true telepath, Jharlan is able to plant suggestions in the subconcious of others. Coupled with his ability to read the surface thoughts of others, this allows him to alter people's perception of the world. In effect, he can create illusions and cause people to think differently. He can't actually control minds though, so while he could plant the suggestion that a sword is just a stick or a large hole is actually a flat surface that is safe to walk on, he could not actually cause someone to committ suicide that wasn't already on the brink of said action anyways. He can also plant suggestions such as someone not being worth the effort of dealing with or other such thoughts that affect ones actions without actually changing their nature. Any thoughts that he plants seem as though they are the thoughts of the person in which they are implanted. The only outward sign of him using this power is that his eyes shimmer when he does so, but he's learned to use suggestion to cover this up as well.

Background: Born to normal parents, Jharlan was raised just as any other child would be, with his powers laying dormant for many years. Growing up during the height of the seconds scare, he was raised with the liberal idea that no matter their outside form, everyone deserves to live equally. While he believed in it because that was what his parents taught him, he never took it to heart until his own powers manifested.

This occured during one of his debate in high school. Already a very persuasive speaker, he was in the middle of a debate for the national championship when his power manifested itself by causing the judges the declare him the victor. They thought that the shimmer in his eyes was just a trick of their eyes. He realized what he had done instantly, and was instantly self-stricken with fear. He did not enjoy his victory.

Over the next 10 years, he became a rather prominent figure in politics on the side of Seconds' Rights. While it places him in a dangerous position given his true nature, he has managed to stay alive thus far using his powers. There has also been several assassination attempts on his life, but due to his ability to read surface thoughts none of them have succeeded Those who sent the assassins have since ceased trying.

In order to keep others from becoming suspicous due to his ability to survive assassination attempts, he has taken up the study of Jujitsu. This form of self-defense, combined with his thought reading, enables him to react to attacks before they even occur. He's still just a man though, and the more resolve a mind possesses the harder it is for him to read or influence it. He can only influence a person's mind, not change it.

Connections: Due to his political nature, Jharlan has numerous political contacts. They are not, however, selfless allies. They work on a favor-for-favor basis, though Jharlan often manages to get more favors from them than he gives by making his favors seem more critical to them.

Personality: While he fights for what he thinks is right, he feels perfectly justifies in using whatever means are necessary to achieve his goals. If a particular political enemy becomes far too troublesome and has yet to establish a large political foothold, he feels no compunctions about attempting to remove the person from power. He also never hesitates to use his powers to aid himself. While not a dark, serious man by nature, circumstance has forced him to appear to be so in public. In private, he actually quite enjoys enjoying what life has to offer.

OOC: If ytou think this is too powerful, just let me know and I can pull back on some of this. Equating him to someoone like Profesor X would be a gross mistake though. He's nowhere near on that level of telepathic power. He does not have the apower to control, only to suggest, though the power of suggestion can become the power to control when used properly.

Hair: Dark brown, crew cut
Eyes: Dark brown, hint of green highlights
Abilities: Varies.
History: Kian was born a Second to military parents. Though his original abilities are unknown, they manifested themselves at an extremely early age, possibly before his first birthday. His father, Mark, recognized this immediately, and brought him to medical specialists of various kinds.

Within a week, Mark was contacted by his superiors. Kian was to be brought to a special facility as the first subject in a test program designed to analyse and exploit the relatively new Second generation. Having been left no choice, Mark brought his son to the medical center.

Immediately, scientists began specific genetic therapy. By that time, the uniqueness of the Second genetic structure had been studied to the point that it could be manipulated with a certain degree of control. The effects of the therapy on Kian were to eliminate his born Second ability completely, while leaving the base sequences of the basic Second code intact.

Afterwards, there were two ways in which he could manifest a Second ability.

First is by injection of a specially prepared serum created using the genetic code of another Second. This serum would swiftly be incorperated by his system, thus allowing full use of the powers of any other Second, based on who's DNA was used. The effects would last from thirty minutes to several hours, depending on various factors. Depending on the abilities involved (some, the researchers found, don't mix), multiple serums could be injected, thus granting multiple abilities. Repeated injection of the same serum, over a period of time, would increase the time in which Kian would retain those powers.

The second way is through close physical contact. Whenever Kian is in close contact with another Second, whether fighting or other conact, he slowly incorperates and gains the abilities of what ever Second he is fighting. Powers temporarily gained through this method are usually weaker, and vanish within minutes. However, like the serum, powers gained in this fashion become stronger and stay longer with repeated and extended contact.

Kian was told none of this. He was raised, since before he could walk, on a specific military indoctrination program. Subjected to ardorous training, Kian's ordinary physical abilities excelled. He was taught many variaties of hand to hand combat. He was trained in handling of nearly all military equipment.

Soon to be instructed of his Second nature, and given powers multiplying his efficiency many-fold, he was a ruthless killing machine. Or was he?

You see, over the years there was another one, one not affiliated with the military, closely following his training, and providing instruction of his own...

History: Grew up in the upper class. His parents were both High Level Executives at 2 different companies. His father's company designed parts for various military weapons, which brought him in contact with many high-ranking military personell. His mother worked at a fortune 500 company that specialized in medical technology. Both of them were extremely respected and took full advantage of this.

As a child, he was spoiled to no end. His parents' personalities wore off on him eventually, and he was well on his way to becoming just another rich boy who looked down on the lower class. Unfortunately for him (He'll tell you now that it was more like "Fortunately"), that wouldn't last long.

One day, at age 16, when he was making out with one of his girlfriends, his hand started to feel numb. When he looked up, he saw his girlfriend was turning blue because of the temperature of his hand. She freaked out and called the police. His parents threw money out of the window to keep it quiet. To this day, that woman has a permanant imprint of his hand on her back. Fearing that their son's problem might compromise their respect, his parents quietly disowned him and to this day claim that he ran away.

Freon, though cocky at the time, wasn't an idiot. He knew many people through his parents work and, thanks to his natural charisma, had befriended many of them. He convinced them to keep him in on the loop. They became, and still are, his window into his parents lives. It also gives him a great deal of knowledge about certain 'breakthroughs' in both medical and military technology.

As of now, Freon lives as a nomad. His most recent place of residence was St. Louis, MO, but he's been off the map now for awhile. Who knows where he'll end up next.

Power Description: Can control Ice and to an extent water. His specialties are making objects out of ice, such as swords (his favorite). The weapons he makes are nearly as strong as their metallic counterparts since his concentration holds the molecules together. With water, he can't do much except move it. but that can be helpful in situations.

Age: 56
Height: 5'8"
Weight: 134
Hair/Eye color: Brown/Brown
Power: Able to disassymble and reassymble anything at molecular and atomic level. Also able to see things at molecular and atomic level.

History: Jonah grew up in south jersey, an average student until the powers manifested. At first he was basicly blind as his vision scoped to the very atoms in the air directly infront of his eyes. He was sent to a place that assists the blind, and there he learned to read brail and slowly regained his vision in infinitesimal increments. At 21 he fully regained his ability to see and further more could direct the vision how he saw fit. During the time he was "blind" there was little to do but read and wallow in selfpity, But not one to be brought down he read all he could, from plays to novels to medical texts. He had earned his GED through the institute and with sight renewed he was more interested than ever in continuing his education.

Quickly, he gathered money and scolarships from his disability. His degree plan was gruelling and left him little time with his triple major plan. Electronic Engeneering, Bio-Chemistry, and Premed, it was to work in artificial appendages but when his second change came upon him it all changed...

While working, on a Computer chip with his vision going he found that he could speed up or slow down the electrons through the wires, just by desireing that they do so. He could flip electronic switches and other things on that scale. Then while observing a chemical reaction in a lab he attempted to slow the reation to a stop and observe it molocule by molocule. When he realized this was drawing attention he allowed it to continue. Later on in private he tested his ability and found that his control not only could affect speed but could break things down into their elemental components. His first couple experiments showed him that he could destroy but it took time before he could reassimble the thing he atomized. Further research into the nature of atoms and fussion worried him. He dropped out of school with only a year to go before graduating. He went into hiding for several years moving occassionally. Jonah worked as a handyman fixing things quickly and recently has taken up a position as a superintendant in an apartment building.

Anyway, to explain Kian's powers...

His original power was lost when military surgeons removed part of the code which is present in all Seconds. As such, he was still genetically a Second because he contained a genetic base for it, but the sequence that determined his power was gone. It was to be replaced with a custom genetic mix at a later date.

However, there was an odd adaptation. Instead of requiring specially prepared samples, he could absorb genetic material directly, multiply it, and integrate it into his own genetic structure, which would then rapidly incorporate the powers given by the code. This code is somewhat unstable, and tends to deteriorate over a period of time, which brings up the next point.

His integrate-and-adapt system seemed to fuction much like the immune system does. New material is recognized, but nothing is done with it immediately. This is why it takes time and more contact than a simple brush would give to gain a power for the first time. Material reintroduced after a time or two would be recognized far more quickly, the ability woul manifest itself faster, and it would last longer. The more the contact, and the more times the genetic material is introduced, the briefer the "trigger" contact would be required, and the longer it would last.

Naturally, one would ask, "What if he tries to absorb more than one power from, say, two individuals?" There are several answers. First, he could simply gain both powers. Second, they could combine in a way unknown and give him a power related, but not identical to, the original powers. Third, they could simply cancel each other out. The first is most common, with the third being least common.

A method to create a serum incorporating genetic material was developed as well. A sample is taken, the genetic material seperated and artificially multiplied, and then the Second part of the code is "snipped" with keyed enzymes. The Second bits are then seperated, and stabilized in a suspension fluid, ready to be injected. Shelf life of the serum is two weeks, extended to three months refridgerated. Been frozen greatly reduces its potency.
