I'm still working on the world that I want this to take place in but I'll see what I can do for now.

Timeline
2008- Romania and Bulgaria sign a treaty, merging the two nations. This begins an effort to unify the eastern european bloc into one nation.

2015- After absorbing Hungary into the fold, the new, evolving nation is donned with the official name of [i] oul unire de nostru bastina [i] (The Union of Our Nations) or the UNB and is recognised by the United Nations.

2021- After unification of most of the southern portion of the eastern european bloc, the UNB encounters political resistance from Poland and it's allies.

April 22nd, 2023- After 2 years of peace negotiations, the UNB ambassador is assassinated by a polish government agent that was, allegedly, acting against presidential commands.

April 25th, 2023- The UNB declares war on Poland and it's allies.

April 26th, 2023- The UNB embarks on a campaign through Slovakia and into Lezask attempting to occupy the land.

May 15th, 2023 4 am- The Battle of Lezask continues. Both sides are wearing down and substantial air coverage from both sides has caused a lock on supplies.


Starting point- Everyone here will start out in or around the school in Lezask, which has been bombed. You can start anywhere within a mile radius of the school. The location is 50(degree symbol) 15'44.18" north, 22 (degree symobol) 25'04.41" east.

I'm using google earth and I suggest dling the application if you want to follow along at all. It should make it real interesting. The system reqs are pretty easy but you need a broadband connection because it sends streaming photos. Once you have the application, or if you already have it, "Fly To" Lejask, Poland and look for a big red building at the coordinates I suggested. If anyone knows a better way to find it, please tell me. I'm relatively new to Google Earth.

So what's the rpg theme? Innocent civilians in pain and sorrow telling their wartime stories? I don't get it...what's the action?

All depends on what you want. You can decide to be soldiers or civilians or whatever. Key thing is that the school has been abandoned by both sides, which I didn't mention before. So if you pick a soldier you can decide to take on the enemy or let that go and just try and figure out how to stay alive. If you pick a civilian you pretty much just want to stay alive. The theme is basically a "Black Hawk Down" type feeling mixed with a feeling kind of like the first part of "Schindler's List" and then just a tinge of something like the game, "Beyond Good & Evil" if it leads towards that.

Im totally in on this. Ill think up a character tonight and post it.

I'm looking for six players, by the way. Minimum of 4, maximum of 8.

Also, I might want to list the countries that are in the UNB and the countries that are aligned with Poland.

Wow, it has been a long time since I've done any RPing. Now that I'm in college and have ridiculous amounts of free time its about time I started up again.

Very interesting scenario, jimkatai. Give me a few hours and I'll post a character bio this afternoon or tonight at the latest. One suggestion: add a Languages line to the character outline. Given that characters can potentially come from anywhere in the world, any number of languages could potentially be spoken which could lead to some interesting situations.

Hmmmmm... language line added. Put it under Nation of Origin. I'll have to figure out how to show who is speaking what since most will probably be bilingual.

What kind of school are we talking about? Grade school? University? I'm considering making my character either a teacher or a student at the destroyed school, so some extra information would be nice.

EDIT: one idea for handling languages would be to simply put tags around dialogue that say what language is being spoken. if someone wants to deliberately hide what is being said from another character who doesn't understand a certain language we could do something like:

"Joseph asks Lydia a question in Polish."

and then PM the actual dialogue to you and any characters present who know Polish.

It's a grade school, k-8. Also, that language system sounds good but I'm not going to set down strict tules for how it's set up. That is if enough people join... *tapping foot*

Physical Description: Joseph is a bookish but handsome young man. His hair is short and curly atop a face with dark, heavy eyebrows set above large, piercing grey eyes.
Experiences in Battle: On May 15th, at 4 AM, Joseph awoke to the sounds of nearby gunfire, a sound he had become accustomed to over the almost three weeks that battle had raged. He’d come to Lezasjk to visit the many members of his extended family who lived here while on a break from his studies at the University of Warsaw. Once the battle broke out, leaving was no longer a possibility. He hid with his relatives (aunts, uncles, grandparents, and cousins) in the basement of his grandparents’ home not far from the school that most of his younger cousins attended. It was a dangerous place to hide, most of the surrounding area had been bombed out, and chunks of the house above them had been blown apart, leaving the building unsteady. Still they were able to subsist in the cramped area for two weeks and five days on dirty tap water and heavily rationed canned goods. The adults had decided that it was simply too dangerous to send anyone out to see if it was safe to try and move everyone, there were ten women and children in all, at least until they ran out of food. There was no way, then, for them to know that UNB forces had set up a small recon post in the abandoned house next door to them. On the 19th day, they finally decided to send someone out to look for food or perhaps a new place to move the family to. Joseph volunteered to go out and reassured them that he would return safe and intact. Unfortunately, they would not be there to return to. The Polish Air Force detected the UNB recon post and bombed the area while Joseph was several blocks away scrounging through the remains of a partially ruined grocery store. The deafening sounds of the nearby explosions immediately injected a sick, cold feeling of dread into his stomach. When he was able to stand back up and look around there was no mistaking that the place he had hidden with his relatives for over two weeks had been utterly destroyed. Stupidly he ran back to where the house had stood, disregarding the danger that he was putting himself in. His worst fears were confirmed: nothing remained but ash and debris. They probably didn’t have time to realize what was happening. In a state of shock he began to wander away with no food or water but what he had managed to stuff hastily in his backpack from the grocery store before the air strike. He wandered for about an hour, eventually coming to the shelled out ruins of his cousins’ school where he heard the unmistakable sounds of a infantry skirmish not far from where he was. Brought suddenly and harshly back to reality he ran to one of the parts of the school that was still partially standing. He recognized what must have been a classroom at one time; the floor was littered with the mangled metal ruins of desks and chairs. In the corner was a closet, its door clinging to the frame by only the bottom hinge. He hid in it and curled into the fetal position in the dark, alone. Despite the battle that was surely not going on more than half a mile from where he lay, he quickly fell asleep. The next day, May 15th, would be his first day alone…
Bio: Joseph grew up in the household of a Jewish rabbi in New York City. His family came originally from Poland almost a century ago shortly before the outbreak of World War II and many of them still lived there. His family had maintained their traditions and heritage for the entire time, his grandparents had even moved back to Lezasjk where the family had lived in the early 1900’s. Thus, Joseph grew up speaking both English and Polish in his home and had been told that he would be going to college at Warsaw as soon as he was out of high school. Joseph himself held little interest for his Jewish and Polish ancestry. He was rather more interested in literature and writing, and though he did go to the University of Warsaw when he was eighteen at the behest of his father, he went to study literature instead of the Jewish studies courses his father had strongly advocated.






EDIT: I just wanted to clarify the PDA/Cellphone capabilities. Since this will take place a few decades in the future, I gave it functions that aren't very realistic today (satellite internet and long battery life as examples). Also, if I unwittingly contradicted anything you had in mind for the background, let me know and I'll alter accordingly.

Hmmmm... at first I had a problem with Poland bombing itself, but that actually makes sense according to the events that will happen in the story.

Well, I assumed that it was the UNB that did most of the bombing, but the bombing Poland does in my little bio I meant to be a precise strike that would only hit the recon post and the immediate surrounding area. I can certainly change it though, if you'd prefer.

No, it's good. Just be suspicious.

Otherwise, ask the question, "Why would Poland be willing to bomb itself in order to keep these guys away?" Even if it was a precision strike, bombing yourself is a PR nightmare.
