Knights of the Old Republic III RP - Interest Check

Where the great lost quests lie...

I’ve been mulling over the idea of running an RP based in the Star Wars universe for some time now. I am also a huge fan of Knights of the Old Republic, both I and II, and thought it would be fun to do the sequel to those two fantastic games. I have come up with a basic outline for the plot, and before I develop it any further I figured I should do an interest check to make sure my time wouldn’t be better spent studying for midterms and writing papers ;). As such, I have written up the “scroll” outlining the basic starting point of the story:

STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC
THE SITH WAR

The Sith Lords known to the Old Republic have finally ceased to
endanger the crippled galaxy. After Sith defeat at the hands of
the Exile ten years ago, the galaxy has been able to heal the wounds
caused by the Mandalorian and Jedi Civil Wars free of external threat.

Though officially governed by the Senate of the Galactic Republic,
it is through the efforts of the newly reformed Jedi Order on Coruscant
that the galaxy is able to rebuild itself. Despite its successes, however,
the Jedi Council is realizing that a new threat, or a very old one, is
emerging.

In the ten years since the Order’s reformation, news of Revan and
the Exile has failed to surface despite rumors that both left to explore
the vast uncharted regions of the galaxy in search of the lost Sith
race. Meanwhile republic ships, from capital-class cruisers to one-man
fighters, have begun to mysteriously disappear into the cosmos without
a trace. With no other leads, the Jedi Council must contemplate the
visions of a young Padawan that, if true, contain startling implications…

The game would start with all players on Coruscant. Some may be Jedi, but they would be young and barely out of their Padawan training. The others players could be just about anything else so long as they can somehow fit into joining with the other players in a group to protect the young padawan whose visions are the key to unraveling the mysteries of the disappearing fleet and the whereabouts of Revan, the Exile, and the lurking Sith race.

I'm looking for 6 players, though a couple more or less would probably be okay. Ideally, I'd like all the players to have played both Knights of the Old Republic games, but I realize that might not be a reasonable wish. Anyway, if enough people seem interested I'll start accepting character applications (please don't post them as I prefer to do things a little differently when it comes to character submission). Meanwhile, I should probably study for my Western Civ. test tomorrow ;).

These are the character templates you may use (hopefully these might get people a little more interested). If you have a character to submit, PM me the full thing and post you Name(Designation), Race(Droid Type), Physical Description, your visible belongings, and your current location and activity.

Anyone thinking of being a Jedi, I'm putting on the constraint that you must be either a Padawan or just finished with your Padawan training and this assignment of protecting the young Padawan (her name is Iya, FYI) is your first. This means you aren't super powerful like most of the Jedi in the films. Think Luke in The Empire Strikes Back and you should have a pretty good idea of how powerful I mean. Other than that, just be reasonable with the belongings you have and be as thorough and specific as possible. Hopefully we can get some more people interested in this!

PS: This will be a freeform RP so don't feel compelled to stick to abilities that are found only in the games. They are, however, a good place to start. http://www.gamebanshee.com/starwarskotorii/ is a good reference for skills, abilities, and belongings. Just be aware that you wont have any actual stats.

I think the reason is that you're basing it heavily off of 2 pre-existing games. Imagination is key to being a good GM. While basing an RPG off of pre-existing storylines is a great way to get people up to speed, relying on them too much (as well as making the entire game revolve around a single character) indicates more a desire to tell a story then to allow the characters to develop a story.

Personally, I say give it a shot. One can't get experience as a GM if no one ever lets you do it.

While I can't give specific defense, I'm confident that if you knew my plans that both of those fears would be alleviated, but since I have not wish to share my plans at this time  I'll have to hope that you guys can trust me to run the RP in a way that will allow the characters to develop the story.

It's nice to see that there is some growing interest as well. I look forward to seeing what you guys can cook up. :D

as long as its ascii encoded :P

And i can see ways where this can be made into a good rpg. From what has been said, it seems that the story will simply be based in the time period of the kotor games, with some foreshadowing done by the visions of this jedi child, and then players make the stary as we go :)

which to me sounds like a fun way of getting started followed by a fun game.

Some more information to help with character creation, etc.

Common Knowledge of the State of the Republic:

The Galactic Republic has enjoyed almost a decade of rejuvenation since the reformation of the Jedi Order. Spearheaded by Jedi Masters Bastila Shan and Jolee Bindo, a small Jedi Council formed and rebuilt the Jedi Academy on Coruscant. When news of this began to spread, many exiled Jedi began to emgerge from hiding and flocked to Coruscant where many were reassigned to war-torn worlds of the Republic to lead restoration projects. Others stayed to hone their own skills and to train a new influx of young padawans. Currently about two thirds of the Jedi Order are still padawans due partly to the fact that the Jedi Council is anxious to increase their ranks, and partly because there seems to have been a dramatic increase in the percentage of force sensitive children.

The reason for this increase is just one of the matters currently under investigation by the Jedi Council. The other, of course, is the matter of the disappearing fleet. Many speculate that the Jedi Council is becoming increasingly worried about this matter which would explain their desire to expand their ranks as quickly as possible.

The Senate of the Galactic Republic, meanwhile, has its hands full with reassembling the governmental infrastructure. While the Jedi have been acting as stewards to the galaxy, the Jedi Council has maken itself clear with the Senate that such will not be their permenant role. They are, of course, dealing with much the same problems as the Council. The disappearing fleet in particular, while still a theoretical problem for the Council, is beginning to seriously hamper the Senate. The fleet, currently the main source of power held by the Senate, is becoming increasingly taxed as it is forced to spread its forces more thinly accross the galaxy. Smugglers and corporations, the Czerka Corporation in particular, are taking advantage of the descreasing presence of the fleet to commit many illicit activities that would otherwise be impossible. Word is beginning to spread that some of the outer rim worlds are being raided by the Czerka Corporation and other organizations who are enslaving entire villages and selling them offworld to wealthy buyers. As such, a growing outcry from outer rim worlds for greater protection, which the fleet is not capable of providing. The result of all this is an increasing pressure from the Senate on the Jedi Order to get to the bottom of the mysterious force behind the fleets dissappearance.
I also just wanted to restate that all characters should be on Coruscant and preferably somewhere near the Jedi Academy. Any Jedi characters would most likely be living at the Academy where they would be training.

Actually, pi, the Greek graphic and it's numerical value were discovered some 4000+ years after as well as several galaxies off the Star Wars universe, it would be inaccurate to use!
