Unhappy about Real Life Support Group

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Unhappy about Real Life Support Group

[So I'm one of those people who will join a forum just to complain... :? ]

I have been a member of the $15-Support Group since it was introduced. I like the weekly bonus comic but frankly I'm beginning to wonder why I'm paying $15 a month instead of only $5. The last booklet I received is the one from January. Is there really such a long delay or is it just me who's not getting booklets?

If they are really delayed so much (as I suspect), then I'm really starting to be unhappy about this deal. I can take some delay, but this has been almost a year! Every now and then Greg says something about missing toner and stuff, but this is really not professional anymore!! I thought the whole Support Group thing was supposed to get Greg's career as a full time cartoonist started, right? But so far I'm paying monthly fees for something I don't get, I hardly even get any update about what's going on and Greg won't even answer my e-mails regarding this matter!

In addition to this, I remotely remember paying for the 2nd book like years ago with similar results (no product and hardly any updates on the progress of the project).

I'm starting to feel quite frustrated and I'm thinking about quitting the Support Group, at least the more expensive version.

Am I the only one who's frustrated by this? Or maybe I'm the only one not getting booklets (and/or updates)?

Unhappy about Real Life Support Group

A fair point... I've been so caught up with a bunch of other crap lately that I completely dropped the ball on this. I will get the second of the first two booklets printed in the next few days, and then those two will be off and away post-haste. Thankfully, the support work for Liz' portfolio is behind us now, so I'll be able to get in some time each weekend to het these caught up and finished.

Life has been in a bit of uproar lately, and it's appalling to me how quickly I let things slip by. :(

Heh, I just sent Greg & Liz a PM about this just a little bit ago.

Well, it seems you're not the only one, das_flo -- I upgraded my 'script from the $5 to the $15 about 4-5 months ago & I haven't gotten anything in the mail either.

I don't mean to give Greg a lot of grief over this, because the reason I chose to give $15/mo is because I genuinely want to support him & this comic. The perks (bonus comic & mailer) are mostly ancillary to me (mostly). Also, I like to consider myself as understanding as anyone when it comes to life getting busy, priorities getting bumped, and the eventual procrastination/avoidance due to guilt -- I'm terrible about this as well. However, I know when I get bad about things like this, the best thing for me is a kick in the pants motivation (usually through calling me out; I'll do most anything to avoid social shaming).

So, Greg...here we are, calling you out. Now get on it. ಠ_ಠ

Ach! I'm werkin' as fast as I ken, captain!

(seriously... prepping these to ship. My boss has had me doing some extra-curricular work at home for a crunch time, but I'm sneaking in time to get these done where I can.)

Also.... that's the most awesome emoticon ever. I'm just sayin'.

:-D Thanks. Although, I have to give credit to the hive mind over at reddit for the ಠ_ಠ ("Look of Disapproval").

I also want to say that I personally appreciate what you do, Greg, and would love to encourage you to keep it up. I think that's one of the reasons I'm willing to provide the "kick in the pants motivation". :-)

Also, I hope this isn't coming too hot on the heels of Liz's hospital stay.

Like I said, I totally understand that life gets crazy. Do what you have to do, man -- just make sure this gets put on the list of "have to do". ;-)

I sincerely hope she's doing all better. That would make for some crappy holidays...

So, it's been another month since you wrote this. Where are they????

Seriously, the last booklet I got was the one from January 2010. That means my booklets are delayed FOR AN ENTIRE YEAR now!!!!

I too think that the support group is about supporting (sic!) RL and a slight delay is no big deal at all. But I understood that the Support Group was supposed to be a start for Greg doing RL profesionally and a one year delay is simply not professional.

If there is no change, I will be leaving the Support Group very soon, I'm afraid... :(

Not to discourage Greg from meeting his promises to the RLSG, but did you read today's comic & news @das_flo? I'll admit that he's probably got higher priorities in mind.

Well, Greg...welcome to fatherhood -- you're still expected to get sh-t done, despite the crazy decrease in "free" time. Just get ready for it. :-/

Just read it... Congratulations to Greg, great news!

However, imo this is really not an excuse for being unprofessional about the RLSG. Other cartoonists have big things going on in their lives, too, they get thrown off their schedule, too, but not by this much. I mean, come on, I paid for a monthly service, a very expensive one actually. I don't mind the high price, because it is supposed to be a contribution to the cartoonist I'm a fan of. Still, I'm not a charitable organisation. I rememer Greg writing something along the lines that the RLSG-subscribers are like his employers in one of the first weekly e-mails. Well, the employee's work is overdue more than a whole year, so his boss is considering firing him. And who could blame him?

Oh, and yes I know I might sound like an asshole, but it's the truth. Am I the only one who is disappointed to be paying for something he does not get in the end?

No, and you're not being an asshole at all. It's completely legitimate.

I've been trying to get these printed here at the office for a few weeks now (I still can't really afford the toner for our home printer) but we kept getting crappy toner cartridges from the supplier, so the damn thing never worked right. However, just last week, my boss decided to stop buying from the discount online place and just buy official HP stuff, so everything's working smoothly again. Next week, while he's out training people, I will be having my way with that printer and getting some booklets out the freakin' DOOR.

I haven't forgotten, and I'm doing my best to make good. Soon, I'll be able to buy more toner for our printer at home, and this will all be a memory. (Protip: Laser printers are nice, but Toner is a freaking pain in the butt to deal with.)

I see this turning into book 3!

My waiting list for things at the moment is just getting rediculous:
1. Shirt Ninja Figuarine
2. Book 2
3. 12/13 RLSG booklets

I understand commitments must be met and things build up but if you're having troubles getting the thigns printed can't you just drop everyone's subscriiption prices for a while until to recover the backlog. Otherwise this is just gonna snowball even more and you'll never have time for anything!

How do you plan to catch up on this massive delay?

If I don't get anything by the end of the month I'm out of the RLSG. I would be sorry about this, but it's just getting way too ridiculous... :(

I'll get these out by the end of the month. I had to abort the mission with printing 'cause the printer was too low on toner, but we've since rectified that - and the one oppurtunity I had last week to print them, I didn't have InDesign CS5 on the computer, so I got it installed and ready to roll. He's got a training next tuesday, so I'ma kick ass and knock 'em out then.
