I must be getting better. I can actually look at that. Maybe it's because I can't see its grotesque myriad of eyes and huge mandibles.

Spiders

Postby Deacon on Tue Jul 03, 2012 5:15 am

That's probably because you don't recognize the red hourglass on an all black body means it's a black widow, a small spider that delivers a very painful and seriously venomous bite.

Spike, did you take that pic yourself? If so, bravo on getting her to sit still long enough to get that pic.

Hell no! I saw the damn thing and I panicked, backed out and ran away. Have NO interest in going to the hospital from a spider. Got the pic off the internet.

damn near had a heart attack

That looks similar to a Redback, in Australia they're famous for lurking under toilet seats. Here's a photo of one eating a goddamned lizard!:

Great, even the toilet seats are trying to kill you in Australia.

it's from the same family of spiders. The kind we have here in the sates are apparently more toxic, but only slightly. Your Australia spiders only require medical treatment 20% of the time :p

At least you know, with spiders. It's the dingoes whose death stats are wrapped in mystery. They're caninjas.

Yeah Fire, I suspected you probably wouldn't be impressed.

Believe me it's nightmare fuel when you live in a country where the most dangerous animal is a chav with a staffy!

(Seriously why do they always own Staffies? Do the pets shops operate a chav discount or something?)

P.S. No offence to any non-chav staffy owners. I have encountered several well trained, well treated staffies and know they are lovely, friendly dogs when they have responsible owners!

Staffordshire Terrier AKA pit bull.

Sweet breed if raised right. All the ones I've known think they are lap dogs.

No, no, I looked it up before and am now acquainted with the meaning. I just noted that I had not heard that term before.

Spider's ain't no thing! Here in Australia, we have a deadly species of fish called "Stonefish". They don't kill you by biting or anything obvious like that. Oh no, they kill you when you mistake them for a stone and accidentally step on them. Yes, we have fish specifically designed to murder you if you step on them. And they're one of the most venomous fish in the world. Oh, and they can survive outside of water for up to 24 hours, so don't think for a moment you'll be safe if you stay out of the ocean.

Also, I read that as "chav with a stiffy"...

In their defence, I'd imagine they mostly kill Australians. And there are loads of you.

True, it's mostly Australians who mistake fish for rocks.
