Heh, I have, and I've shared, though no pics :P

And yes, I took the pics myself. With my iPhone. Jez knows the score.

Last night the bandage slipped off somehow. I don't know if I was itching at it in my sleep or what the deal is, but it's not on anymore. I'm supposed to switch to band-aids now anyway. But looking at the stitches? Creepy as hell, at least in real life (i.e. compared to pics). There's something sinister and almost insect-like about them.

Coincidentally I just accidentally gave myself a small cut in the same spot while cutting an onion. This has not been a good month for thumbs.

Eee. Yeah, Lucksi reminded me of something. Deacon, the nerves in my finger I cut in October are somewhat messed up. If I rub my thumb on my finger that I cut it feels like something is touching my finger where the cut occurred. Also, I can not feel hot or cold on a portion of that finger. It should be interesting to compare notes in a week.

Well, it's looking and feeling a little better already. Swelling has gone down a bit, some of the redness has receded, and it doesn't constantly hurt. It still hurts like a bitch if I accidentally bump it on something, and there's part of the thumb that is still numb, but otherwise it's fine. I'm even using it successfully to navigate the space bar again, though I still find myself using the right thumb for that on occasion, and I'm holding it slightly awkwardly. The tetanus shot's soreness has mostly worn off as well.

Keep it covered 'til the stitches come out; Band Aids do fine. Neosporin or triple-antibiotic ointment is your friend as well right now. At least the nurse had the good sense to leave 'tails' on the sutures; makes life a WHOLE lot easier to get 'em out.

How the hell does something like that happen? That's either one really sharp fork, or the kid hit it with a lot of force behind his cranium. Either way, that kid seriously fails at eating.

My mom (a nurse) was in town and helped me take the stitches out Sunday afternoon. I swear the doc who did the stitches was just a vet who wanted to work on people. Not exactly the best work a plastic surgeon could've done, you know? And his advice on care was shallow and terrible. Oh well. It's at least mostly closed up by now.

PS I've seriously become a believer in saline solutions working miracles.

Well, it's been about two and a half years since that ridiculousness, and pretty much all feeling has long since come back to my thumb, though it still feels slightly like the effect of a nearly-worn-off anesthetic when you touch certain parts of it. There's a thin white scar still in place that'll probably never go away, either, though the picture doesn't really show it like it really looks. All in all, I almost forgot this existed...

This is all because you didn't get the necropost this month, isn't it? Still, this reminds me of the scar my dad gave me when he stabbed me on my 20th birthday.

I like scars. As long as they're not horribly disfiguring. They're physical souvenirs and little reminders, all rolled into one.
I have a scar on the underside of my chin, for example, which reminds me not to press my chin into the top of a lit bedside lamp as bulbs can get really quite hot.

Good to hear your thumb nerve is okay. I had no idea this was a necro until I opened it. I thought it a new thread and it was only two years ago. Worrying.

After 2.5 years, that looks pretty good. The combination of a clean cut with a good stitch job helped a lot. As you mentioned, I'm sure it looks a little bit more prominent without the flash/lighting effect of the camera.

I have more prominent scars from less severe cuts only because the stitch work done by the damn doctors was more on the level of drunk shoemakers.

It was a brand new Buck knife, which helped. I have worse scars from far less egregious injuries as well for the same reason...
