More mature? No. There's just a lot more money and available space on american TV. So much crap is made, you don't know really even notice how horrible it really is because in the age of PVR you don't have to. With less money and less space, British TV on average is better than 95% of what comes out...

Sims 2 + 1 Expansion + 1 "Stuff" Collection == $20. CANADIAN.

All I know is that DX 10 features on the 360 like motion blur actually make Tekken 6 look terrible.

I'd say I've sold about an even number of each, if we discount all of the 360 exchanges as single units. I would however agree that the 360 seems to sell more. Of late I know for certain that I've sold more PS3s than 360s to first time buyers.
