I did this exact same thing. Except I only had quarters and didn't have to bother separating them. The part that really sucked was that I didn't have a digital scale and had to use the bathroom scale to weigh them. Then, like BtEO recommended, I went to Wikipedia to find out how much a quarter weigh...

I said almost half. More like a third actually but whatever.
