Re: August 17th 2006 - The Comic Thread
There really wasn't an old definition, that was the problem. Without a firm definition, there was no way to say if Pluto was or was not a planet, something that has been debated ever since it was discovered.

Really enjoying the comic lately
Greg, I'm sure this isn't *why* you moved and started culinary school, but it has really helped the comic. The cooking stuff has added a little more variety to the strip. It's just nice to see the characters dealing with new experiences. One other thing I like. In recent comics like the one where Li...

For me, the movie was decent, but not great. All the stuff that was supposed to be funny worked for me. However, there weren't enough of those moments. There were a lot of places where there would be a long time between gags. They might even do the setup for a joke from the book, but then they'd jus...

The odds of meeting readers
How many classes have you taken, Greg? If the odds really are something like 1% for having four readers in the same class, that's just for one particular class. If you took 10 classes at that same university, then the odds would be higher. They wouldn't be 10% because there would be some crossover o...

Nice to see a parody of the Hulk
Nice to see someone ripping on the Hulk movie. If you really wanted to capture my impression of the Hulk movie, you'd have had to make at least 40 panels. That was basically my impression of the movie: a lot of stupid camera crap that turned a 15 second scene of a helicopter going across the desert ...

Women don't actually live longer than men. Non smokers live longer than smokers. Since significantly more men smoke than women, that messes up the life expectancy figures. If you just compare smoking men to smoking women, or non smoking men to non smoking women, then men and women have the same life...

Re: It ends with "You look silly"?
I didn't mean any offense. And I did read the news post, so I know it isn't quite over yet. It just felt like the momentum died down pretty suddenly with that strip. I don't mind things going back to normal, they just seem to be doing so a little fast for the momentum that you had. Maybe that's just...

It ends with "You look silly"?
I guess I'm just a little let down that there wasn't a more explosive ending. The joke is definitely good. It even makes sense in the Real Life universe. If people can try to take over the world because they're bored, then I guess they can stop because they're embarrased. I guess it's just because D...

If someone actually manages to get the the access panel while the missile is in flight, then he *deserves* easy instructions.

Are we really sure that Dave *isn't* going to be dead or locked up in the end? The news posts have mentioned several times that the real Dave isn't around anymore. Greg has mentioned that he wants to wright about other characters more. Maybe this is his way of letting the Dave character go out with ...

Re: How DOES he do it?
Levels aren't hard. I started a comic a few weeks ago without ever having touched serious picture editing software. I downloaded GIMP (very photoshop like), and was able to adjust levels without problem. I much prefer it to letting the scanner automatically decide what should be white and what shoul...
