Hitting a moving object at 300 yards isn't easy, and a measure of pride is perhaps justified in being able to do that. However, killing a deer just for that is distasteful. My brother shoots watermellons. From over two miles away. (McMillan Bros. .50 cal. single-shot rifle+good scope+laser rangefind...

Re: What's your monitor resolution?
SPARCstation: 1152x900 on two monitors with 2304x1800 logical desktop. SGI: 1280x1024 on one monitor. All three monitors are 20" Sun-branded Sony Trinitrons. I kinda like the fact that these monitors don't work at 640x480. I'm not even sure they bother with 800x600. They should work at 1600x120...

I've just been ripping into some foolish little creeps in the computer section. The thread about the new Apple G5, to be precise. PeeCee zealots are so cute when they feel threatened by superior technology. Anyway, if anyone is bored enough that they want to start a full-scale flame war in that thre...

I don't use Macs or PCs, but I spend most of my time reading about processor architectures and operating systems, so I know more than is healthy about both. (In case you are wondering, this is being typed on a Sun SPARC-based system running Solaris. BTW, It has never locked up. Not once. No crashes....

I should mention our latest development activities. Two TARPA members visited a meeting of the Seattle Robotics Society. We are planning to construct a line -maze solving or Sumo robot to compete in a contest at the SRS Robothon event in October. This event will take place at the Center House at the...

Re: TARPA - Tentacle Advanced Research Projects Agency
There is only one efficient way to stop us: arrange for a "rogue state" like North Korea or Montana*, to use WMD to destroy Seattle. Efforts are underway to recruit people elsewhere, so it would be best to destroy us quickly. Our data center and work shop are rooms in a suburban house. The...
