I'll try and point out some more obscure authors i've read. For fun, dark, sarcastic humor I highly recommend Steven Brust's Vlad Taltos novels. Robin Hobb (real name Megan Lindholm) has written a great series of epic fantasy novels about a prince's bastard raised as an assassin for the royal family...
