well.. if you really need it. Try out another floppy drive (borrow one or jack one from work/school, or pull one out of another pc in your house) If that doesn't work, may be your cables like some of the others said. Or just go buy a USB storage device, they are booming in the market)

I would like to see the hardware issue fixed first. I'm still very lucky that my ps2 has not died on me.
As for the harddrive. I play one game that has plans for the harddrive, and that is socom II.. but other than that.. it is fine.

are you on a router? or hub ? If so, if both computers are in the same workgroup (sometimes needed, sometimes not.. best to just be in the same workgroup.) just disable it in your BIOS. The only times you need floppys are for school, and drivers for old hardware. But XP includes most of the drivers you will ever need (2000 has a fair amount also).

careful with linksys though. I use a linksys and have came across a fair amount of issues. I hate for one that you can't turn off the firewall, instead you have to open up ports. It is a fantastic router, if you know what you are doing. But i would say go either D-link or Linksys
