Best National Anthem

Post by Aether » Sun Feb 22, 2004 8:33 pm

Which country's national anthem is the best, or your personal favorite? (And I know the above list isn't all inclusive)

Vote now!
In the end though, it's really the bees that get Sam.

As a technical matter, I think the US one is, like, one of the most difficult pieces to sing; likely, it is the "best" of the above in that aspect (it requires a better singer to perform).

I'm rather partial to Great Britain's National anthem.
In the fall of 1972 President Nixon announced that the rate of increase of inflation was decreasing. This was the first time that a sitting president used the third derivative to advance his case for reelection. - Hugo Rossi, Mathmetician.

Why am I not surprised that Strong Badia has the most votes so far? Yeah, that's what I voted for, too. "Strong Bad Sings" > other CD's. I also agree with Maverick on this one. "Star Spangled Banner" annoys me. But probably just because I've heard it so much. Whatever.

The national anthem of Ukraine is very beautiful.
The USSR's was pretty freaking sweet if you ever heard it. I only heard an instrumental so idunno what communist plugs were in it so whatever.
Here are the ``communist plugs`` of the Soviet anthem. (best translation found)

Unbreakable Union of freeborn Republics,
Great Russia has welded forever to stand.
Created in struggle by will of the people,
United and mighty, our Soviet land!

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

Through tempests the sunrays of freedom have cheered us,
Along the new path where great Lenin did lead.
To a righteous cause he raised up the peoples,
Inspired them to labor and valorous deed.
[Or, the old way:
Be true to the people, thus Stalin has reared us,
Inspire us to labor and valorous deed!]

Sing to the Motherland, home of the free,
Bulwark of peoples in brotherhood strong.
O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people,
To Communism's triumph lead us on!

In the vict'ry of Communism's deathless ideal,
We see the future of our dear land.
And to her fluttering scarlet banner,
Selflessly true we always shall stand!
