Cliff needs to polish...

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Cliff needs to polish...

Post by Avi » Mon Feb 23, 2004 12:56 pm

...his DM skillz...

Rule 1.2.45 : Don`t rely entirely on the charts and graphs.
Rule 1.2.46 : Don`t tell the players what the found object does (thats what the Identify spell is for)

But he did solve the "Lotsa gp wish" problem pretty well.
Once I wished for my +2 longsword to become more powerful

The DM`s reaction ?

"Right... now you have a GREATSWORD. Next wish ?"

Dear Greg,

Your next strip must involve a Deck of Many Things killing the entire party.

Love and kisses,

Sal.

Deck of many things = über pwnage.

And I'll take 5 cards, by the way.

When I used to play D&D, our DM made the mistake of bringing in a deck of many things. I drew four cards if my memory serves, and despite the 50/50 chances of good and bad happenings, I got nothing but good. The last card was the sun card, which evidently gives you a billion experience or something. I ended up going from level 3 to 10. I thought it was hilarious. After that the deck "mysteriously dissappeared".

What made it funnier was the fact that I was only playing the game for my friends' benefit.

I love this thing.

I got the deck of many things. I not only lost a point of intelligence but summoned DEATH.

I don't like the deck of many things.

Also, Avi, keep in mind that the comic, being four panels, has to be condensed. Cliff doesn't tell you what you get, you have to appraise it. However, that would take too long to really be funny, now wouldn't it? The comic is doesn't exactly relate what happens, people.

How did you fare against DEATH, by the way?

That was a great comic. I remember when I gave the players a ring of three wishes. Biggest mistake I ever made. A great solution to the problem.
Do you know the difference between who and what you are?

Are you not aware that the Ring of Three Wishes is deliberatly intended to cause death to the players by doing exactly what they want? Experienced players stay /far/ away from the things; the chances of accidently destroying themselves are far too great.

Player 1: "I wish we had something that would help us kill this great wurm!"

GM: "Tarresque appears, eats the dragon, eats the party. Roll new characters."

Rest of Players: *Miscellaneous profanity and throwing of foodstuffs at Player 1.*

Don't say foodstuffs. Call it what it is. Mountian Dew and Doritos. Don't paint the lilly.
My sig would have contained the secret of life, but I'd already clicked submit.

Let's just say in one of our games the DM gave us magic beans...lots and lots of magic beans. Needless to say, the solution to every problem, large and small became "I plant a bean"

What the hell?

You yell at Cliff for auto-identifying our items, but you don't yell at him for not giving me an agility roll?

Screw you guys.

Geez, good to know that I can still play D&D when I get out of high school.

I suffer under evil DM's as well.
Either this post is intellegent, and well written or I just wasted 3 seconds of your life :D

Maybe he can give you an agility roll to see if you can crawl out from under that rock.
