The odds of meeting readers

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

The odds of meeting readers

Post by CodeGuy » Thu Feb 26, 2004 2:19 am

How many classes have you taken, Greg? If the odds really are something like 1% for having four readers in the same class, that's just for one particular class. If you took 10 classes at that same university, then the odds would be higher. They wouldn't be 10% because there would be some crossover of students from the class you've already taken. However, the odds would be higher. If you've taken 20 classes, then the odds might be pretty reasonable that it would happen sooner or later.

also there is probably a large convergence between people who are learning japanese and people who read the comic (its just a nerd thing). Then there's the fact that regular readers are more likely to live in your area because of the "local" draw, some of the jokes are locally oriented, etc.

The original IP Address tally could have a pretty big effect... the whole "college students on same IP" thing, multiple people in households reading the strip, people who read the strip from their friends' house or from school... could easily add another few thousand.

On a side note... I really should start watching Stargate SG-1 more.

Also to counteraffect the college students on the same ip thing, there is the fact that aol user's ip change every time, along with people with firewalls and such. And seeing as how sadly aol is very popular *shudder* you can assume that they come pretty close to balancing eachother out.

well if you want to count for AOLs dynamic IPs you have to know that few people on dialup look for updates every time they connect
I look at the front page once a day for example, my IP changes when i reconnect but i do not look every time i connect

I almost took the class this semester....

Edit: I got a C last time I took it a couple years ago. Learning the vocabulary is the hardest part.
