wait, does "being in FFVIII" count as a character flaw? 'cause if it does Squall = teh l00z

Equipment system is trash.

Characters are incredibly un-likeable, especially the main character who needs to learn how to TALK.

Junction system is too simple and horribly broken.

Storyline is sickeningly contrived (GF's reside in our memories!!!! O_O The Matron who used to take care of us is our ENEMY! O_O!!!ONE!!).

Too easy.

I found Squall a lot more likeable than, say, Zidane *shudders*
And Crono never talked, and I'm sure you *can't* be insulting Chrono Trigger... :)

As to the actual subject... yeah, shitty article, idiot middle-aged woman looking to blame society's problems on something she's not familiar with...

But no worries. The vast majority of young adults (under 30) are completely comfortable with video games, and we're taking over the world soon enough. Middle aged concerned citizen over-analystic whiners will be sitting in old folk's homes soon enough, wasting their time when they could be playing FFXXI. Video game whiners used to worry me until I realized this.

[edit]And yes, it was quite sad when General Leo died, but it made killing Kefka in the end that much more satisfying, and gave Celes (one of my favorite characters) a little more depth :)[/edit]

I thought Zidane was fun. :)

And Crono "Talked", though his text was never shown. He was rather friendly, though, judging by the party's and NPCs' reactions. :)

90% of Squall's "Dialogue" was introspective - lots of thoughts, mostly whiney or stupid ones, ending in him saying "Whatever".

I've played through nearly all of them, and yes, I'd agree on that, but FF8 actually made me CRY during the GF memories scene at Trabia Garden... not because it was touching, but because it was so fucking awful.

I broke off a piece of my computer desk due to slaming my head against it.

Normally I will force myself to finish a game even after months of putting it off.

FF8 is the only game I swear that if I get another copy given to me, I'm mailing it back to square and asking for my stamp money back.

I didn't find 8 or 9 particularly great, and 6 is still my favorite by far, but neither 8 nor 9 brought me to tears through sheer suckery.

Playing as such an inane character as Zidane did make me want to be sick from time to time, however...

But that's just because I despise pretty boy types almost as much as I despise idiot types, and Zidane embodied both of those categories :). I'm supposed to *like* the main character at least a little, not want to strangle him with every word.

Ah well... 6, 7 and 10 were all quite excellent (though Tidus could've used some work too *sighs*), so I'm not complaining. Much.

I don't see how people can think that FFVIII is so bad. Sure the battle system sucks and the whole GF memory thing is stupid, but I think that the rest is pretty good.

I thought the weapon upgrades were okay, and I thought the characters were good. Then again, I guess I have a pretty high tolerance for angsty heros if they have a cool enough sword.

Other than that, yeah, I agree, but still love it anyway.

Cool enough sword? Ever try doing a pistol wip with a hand gun? Try the motion, then imagine adding 20 pounds to the weapon. Then tell me its cool.
