There really aren't any mainstream anime movies, when's the last time you saw an anime movie on primetime TV? It's well known, but Ghost in the Shell is one of my favorite anime movies. And although it's CGI, the anime-styled movie A.LI.CE is good, especially if you enjoy the CGI cutscenes in Final Fantasy. It's damned near impossible to find reviews for this, but I'll give my own. A.LI.CE is about a girl who becomes the youngest person to travel into space after she wins a competition. However during the journey, something goes wrong, and the ship crashlands. Alice wakes up to a strange snowy world and a robotic girl suddenly appears and pulls Alice onto speeder, with these villains in hot pursuit. Sorry it's a little vague, it's been years since I've seen it, here's some pics http://www.artsmagic.co.uk/EasternCultC ... taster.htm
EvilElf : Arrugh! Your avatar blinked!!
*EDIT* GREAT CANDY-COATED CRAPCAKES!!!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! OMG!! HOLY CRAP!!!! You know that ebay thing they have on Yahoo's searches? I just did a search for A.LI.CE info, and guess what was in it? The A.LI.CE DVD!!!!! OMG!! I've been looking for this for about 3 years!! It's mine!!!!
*runs away to bid*

Tenchi Muyo in Love.

Granted, it's better if you've seen the series. However, even if you haven't, it still has the Dimensional Cannon, a weapon so powerful that you wouldn't use it destroy a planet because it's designed to take out a galaxy.

Can't get past the nudity. I'd rather not watch it because of that.

I've really got to sit down and watch Ghost in the Shell. And A.L.I.C.E. looks pretty damn sweet too. Spring break's here... the ultimate anime watching time.

What? It's totally non-sexual, so it's fine. You're missing out on a good movie.

NorthernComfort : yes, AL.IC.E is great, maybe you can find it on ebay too? On another note about my finding, just before I scrolled down, i found a British site that was selling the DVD, and I thought I might order it in, but then I found the Ebay link that was selling the exact same DVD :D

OK. I'll attempt to give a better review of AL.IC.E.
AL.IC.E is the story of a girl is becomes the youngest person to go into space, after she wins a competition. However during the journey, something goes wrong, and the ship crashlands. Alice wakes up to a strange snowy world and a robotic girl suddenly appears and pulls Alice onto a speeder, with these villains in hot pursuit. After the two escape, they return to the owner's home, a young mechanic. Alice then finds out after talking to him that she's been pulled 40 years into the future, and the world is ruled by a man called Nero and his supercomputer, and that Alice may have some sort of connection to this.

The graphics may be pretty standard, and the story's not super imaginative, but there's just something special about that tweaks with fans of game CG sequences (namely Final Fantasy), and I for one have always loved them, so it really appeals to me.

About the only places I can think of where you can buy it (it's impossible to DL, believe me, I've been trying for years) is on Ebay and if you're in the UK (or don't mind ordering from said kingdom) this site http://www.artsmagic.co.uk/store/erol.html#7271x0&&

Hoshi no Koe was a good movie, even if it was only 25 minutes long.

It's about two friends, one of whom joins the Space Military Core, the other who stays behind on Earth. They keep contact with eachother via text messages on their cell phones.

The time line becomes warped as the messages take longer and longer to get between them.

It's very good, and on DVD in the US.

Memories! Well, it's actually three short movies, but they're all good.

And I'm gonna have to say Ghost In The Shell, too. And while it's mainstream, and so are Akira and Vampire Hunter D, if you haven't seen it, those three make a sort of Trifecta that everyone I know who enjoys anime seems to think is kind of obligatory for any fan to have seen. They kick ass, anyway.
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."

"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."

Yeah, i definetly want to see memoris. Oh and I'm sure some people here have heard of Yoshitaka Amano, since he did the artwork for the ff games and vampire hunter D. Well, apparently,, in the 80's he came out with an independant film called "Angels Egg" And was wondering if any of you knew if that's been subbed and if it's possible to get it anywhere.

Anything from Studio Ghibli, such as,

Spirited Away *
Princess Mononoke **
--------------------------
Akira ***
Ghost in the Shell
Jin Roh ****
Metropolis *****
Animatrix ******

* My favorite of all time. It's so inventive.
** Excellent story and great world they've situated it in.
*** One scene with breasts but it's totally non sexual. Lots of violence.
**** Just lots of plain and simple hardcore violence.
***** Again, other very inventive anime. Lovely world and saddening story. Very sad ending. This made me cry.
****** Must-see.
