Since everyone loves to rant on about that, do it here!

I would put a real reply, but I really don't know much about computers, and I would get my debating ass handed to me. suffice to say PCs are all I've ever had, and I think they're good enough for me.

To put it simply...

Pcs = games/warez
Macs = work/graphics
Did someone say booya?

PCs are more popular thus have more software available, etc. But I have noticed that my Mac is more reliable and I enjoy using it. But I have to use this PC since alot of games and software are not available to the Macs.

AH, the great debate.

As someone who uses both Windows and Mac just about every day, I can say that they're about dead even.

Windows obviously has a better selection, but the fact that all mac hardware is Mac standard gives it a stability that Windows can't even touch.

I would also much rather use a Mac for any kind of graphic design or artwork (except web design, which is a pain in the arse on a Mac, I know, I used to do it). In fact, I think I would rather use a Mac for anything, except for the fact that not everything comes out on the Mac OS.

I guess what I mean is that I would much rather use a Mac, but until game developers start putting out Mac games at the same rate they do PC, I guess I'll stick with XP.

I agree with billf
as since I have a no-longer-shiney pc that needs horrid upgrading, and a shiney iBook

I pretty much play my games on my pc
but I find that Mac is much better and more efficent at graphic stuff.
As since I run Photoshop 7 on both my windows and on my mac. It seems that my mac is a little more responsive in that area.
I also think the LCD has a much better color saturation than my lcd for my pc, but thats moot.

of course now I cant decide to get Moo3 for PC or mac since they come out at the same time XD

macs look good
pcs remind me of soviet-era industrial wastelands

macs are stabile
my pc has crashed more times that I have actually shut it down properly

macs have very little software
pc software is unavoidable

macs cost bunchs
pcs are relatively cheap

this brings me to the conclusion that I hate them both the same and wish that I had bought that version of Red Hat for $35 last month.

For a desktop? PC all the way.

For a laptop? Probably a Mac.

As I see it... Macs have 2 pros and 2 cons...

1) Con - Most hardware is proprietary. When it isn't, your options are still limited.
2) Con - Very few games are released for the Mac platform.
3) Pro - Macs tend to be better for word processing.
4) Pro - Macs are better for graphics work.

When you're talking about a laptop, the first strike against the Mac is a strike against all laptops. As for the rest, I'm unlikely to use a laptop for video gaming anyway, I'm far more likely to bring it to table-top roleplaying sessions for note taking and character sheets (more if I'm GM). Plus, I'll end up using it as a place to dump my images from my digital camera - 16 mB only goes so far - why not clean them up on the machine they're on anyway?

Oh... and OS-X rocks. :)

Actually there was a review (i remember now) on a mac website that took the fastest mac dual 1 gig g4's or something like that with everything at a really high spec 1gig ram etc, then took a high spec pc intel p4 3.06 gig with ht and 1 gig ram, etc.

In almost all of the tests the pc was faster and it was comparing graphics apps, video encoding etc (apples to apples as so to speak). They used the mac and pc version of the same software.

As both Intel and AMD will tell you, the raw numbers don't mean everything.

You know, it's odd.... Microsoft has made my very job possible, and I'm my employer's only real Microsoft evangelist. That being said, when I went looking for a place to host the new forums, I wanted somewhere running Linux or FreeBSD and Apache. Development of the new forums, though, took place on a Windows server I use at work, because I could connect through Terminal Services and edit the code directly.

I sometimes use a Mac at a friend's house where I can play with OS 10.2 (which I really love and now I need a Mac at home so I can learn it better), and am trying my damnedest to either buy a laptop or to get work to buy a laptop on which I can run both Linux and Windows.

I guess I'm OS-agnostic.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

Oddly the only time windows crashes on me is when i play microsoft games. Since microsoft made windows shoudnt its games run perfectly? I guess since thier a  conglomerate they make they games mess up. For ex. whenever i goto exit AC2 it freezes so now i use ctrl+alt+del to exit the program now. In my opion the really only good games coming out from mircosoft is mechwarrior. :)
