I was (un)lucky (depending on how you look at it) on never using the crt iMacs. Personaly I havent tried gimp but I want to. However im having problems installing XDarwin on my lappytop (keeps crashing X11 when I try to run XDarwin) so I can use not only GIMP but Xchat. oh well.

As for X.x you can download a demo of that off of ms' website for the mac. And I have to say its quite nice with the aqua interface ^_^. However its still text program, within exeption of entourage, which I heard is nicer than the built in mail program for osx.

I have ps for both PC and my iBook, and they roughly work the same (700mhz G3 v 900mhz AMD) The nice thing I like about the mac version is the lack of a windowed background (thus you can click on something behind it and the interface will dissapear, makes things easier to open stuff since I can then just drag the icon to the Photoshop icon on the toolbar)

and on a little note, OsX's built in webserver is apache (4.something I believe for my current version of osx)

I personally think both are great...and by both i mean PC's and Mac's
not windows... i think windows can do a lot less buying of companies and a lot more innovating.

Macs are so Innovative...ie instead of just bulding a laptop that has a lit keyboard...it builds a super laptop with a lit keyboard that adjusts its brightness by comparing it to ambiant lighting situations.
Its the little things about Apple that has won me over.

But its not about whos better who sucks...both pc's and macs have their positives.

I personally right now am running the 20 inch apple cinema display on my PC and i love it, and im also running a mac ipod on my pc.

ok ime to end this topic. I personally prefer macs. They have great stability blah blah blah. But microsoft and linux are somewhat more widely used and have much more crap avalable for them. i intend to have one of each when I get my own house. I do however, have a probleem with Microsoft the company, I really dislike the way the do business. I mean really, can anyone reading this deny that a company that big should be able to turn out a perfect product IN THE FIRST VERSION?? They're are focussing on making money more than making good products  but...if I dont get a windows... I won't be able to play Worms Arrmageddon 8) ....... Also, can anyone tell me where to download the shirt ninja desktop wallpaper??
Don't step on the ducks, they don't like it. Monty Python for President! Macs rule, and everthing else is O.K.

ok where to start (i know that i'm necroposting something cronic here but i like the topic)
in order (from memory)
Safari is great i'm using version 1.0 its still got some bugs but its just nice
The mouse thing is one of the most(at least from what i have heard)reason for not liking mac. I am using a Microsoft Explorer 3 mouse on mine. (no drivers needed) (running 10.2)
Another one windows software can be run on a mac with an emulator the best one that i know of is Virtual PC
and you can put non mac hardware into a mac(eg. ram, hdd, video cards sound cards)
and the G4 was known for how loud it was and they fixed that in the G5( for more details http://www.apple.com)

i have both Mac and pc. and i prefer the mac even though it's a revision a Imac (266 Mhz G3 192MB ram CDROM) and i just doesn't break my pc (AMD 1600+ 256MB RAM) is broken and needs to be replaced. When i do it will be replaced with a Mac

OS 10.2 runs on it not great cause there arn't any native drivers from this video card (which is ok seeing as though its like 6 years old. but it works and for all your classic apps install os 9 and run classic and they just work (its soo nice).

BTW TrunksGoku nice setup.

That reminds me of another thing about mac price. If you look at the specs on Macs and compare them specs to specs there not that bad. I did a Comparison top of the range mac (which was a G4 at the time) with all the mods and cons and it turned out like 22k (yeah thats right but it had like 2 23' LCDs and almost half a TB of drive space and the rest) to the same in the pc world and the pc was 24k the difference was made with the screens. The apple screens were actuly biger by about an inch but were like $1000 cheaper.
(BTW all currence was in Australian Dollar so if it seems to much thats why(

i hope i coved everthing

Behold! Thread resurection!

Anymore Mac vs. PC is just a preference. I've seen some people crash Windows in an instant and heard of Macs crashing(don't know a lot of mac users). Macs are prolly number wise more stable than Windows because of the whole Unix thing. Then some people argue that games are more abundant on the PC than the Mac. It's all about the person who uses the machine. In my experience most PC users think Mac users are like the jeovah witnesses ready to try and convert you any second, and Mac users think PC users are a bunch of ignornat fools. I know neither is true (for the populous). PC users think that macs are big toys, while Mac users think PCs are big toys. Contrary to popualr belief (some)Macs can be upgraded just like (some)versions of Windows are better than others. And also Macs aren't that much more costly than PCs (not including building your own of course, because Mac is in competion with Dell, Gateway, and HP and not with indiviual companies like ATI, Intel, or AMD). If you take a Powermac and place it spec for spec with a Dell, it's not more than few hundred dollars more. The lowest priced mac is at $800 and it goes all the way up to $5000ish, as well as all inbetween. They say PCs are crash prone and unreliable, however I know of some Windows users (even ME users) who've never had problems.

Overall, it depends on the user. Kinda like some people like Peanut Butter, and some don't. There's no explaination why, and usually someone will never change his/her taste.
Did someone say booya?

I'm tired of sharing my family pc and I'm thinking of buying my own computer, the question is, should I get a pc, which I've been using my entire life, or give a Mac a shot.

I'm really thinking of buying a Mac; I'm into graphic design and video editing, which is making me lean towards apple.

But I'm beginning college this fall, and will be studying computer science, which is making me wonder if I should go for yet another pc.

What do you guys think?

a friend of mine is studying computer science and got an iBook. she has no problem with it. i'd highly recommend the mac. in graphic design/video editing and comp science, i doubt you'll find anything you can't use on a mac. for the graphics, you've got all the corel/adobe/quark stuff. for the video, you've got final cut pro, after effects, and avid (adobe recently stopped development of premiere on the mac because they couldn't compete with FCP). and for the comp science stuff, you've got your UNIX base.
