I was wondering if anyone's see the movie (the recently-released remake), and if so, what they thought, especially of the ending.
Personally, I mostly enjoyed the movie. Hank's character was fun to watch, and the last ten minutes or so of the movie were hilarious, except for the veeeeery end.
But it's damn far from the Coen's best.

The Ladykillers
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."
"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."

I enjoyed it a lot. Much more than Intolerable Cruelty. The casting was perfect and it was well written, as all Coen movies are. The last ten minutes were great; I seriously laughed my ass off. My girlfriend hated it, though. She just doesn't care for dark comedy. For some reason she can't see the humor in death. Go figure.

Indeed! I personally enjoy dark comedy... which is why, also ... well, I'm gonna size it down since it's a spoiler.. ... I think that the old black lady should have been killed in the end, too. Yes, the cat should have escaped. Like, he runs off with the finger, and so she's standing there looking at the money, and it turns out the explosions had weakened the foundation of the house, so it all collapses on her head. Partially because I would have laughed my fucking ass off, and partially because everyone else died after deciding they'd keep the money instead of returning it. So once she did the same, it shoulda been DEATH! ... 'course, that's just my opinion.

Re: The Ladykillers
I liked the movie overall, certainly not the Coen's best movie, that would have to go to Oh Brother, Where Art Thou followed closely by The Hudsuker Proxy.
I love dark comedy, so I enjoyed a lot of the comedy in this movie. But my favorite part had to be the way Hank's character ended up, I won't mention any specifics, but it was a classic example of Greek tragic irony, one of my favorite plot elements.

Precious and few and the moments that you and your own worst enemy share.
