Good Manga?

Post by jimkatai » Tue Mar 30, 2004 6:49 am

I was wondering what you guys thought would be some good manga. I already started Planetes but I think it's a short series, although good. I wanna start Getbackers. What do you think?

Well, what kind of stuff do you like? That's kind of an important question.

But - Battle Angel Alita! I can't easily explain how much Battle Angel Alita (or "Gunnm") rocks.

I was looking at Naruto but I really loved Planetes. Oh, and I like about anything. Just so the character development is good.

In that case, Jim, read Battle Angel Alita! It's got character development, and philosophy, and interesting characters.. wraped up in mechanical ultraviolence! :P

Oh. Great Teacher Onizuka is good, too.

I rather enjoyed the bit I read of Gunnm, but it was in French and I only got halfway through the first volume. Need to find it in English(though I think they for some reason renamed Gally to Alita... no clue why...) and finish that.

I also rather enjoy Berserk, but it's rather violent and disturbing. Actually, very violent and disturbing.

The Hellsing manga is also incredibly good. Much more so than the anime, in my opinion.

I also liked Love Hina. Again, I prefer the manga to the anime.

There's also the often-overlooked but fantastic title Blade of the Immortal. The characters and emotional expressions are fantastic. :)

Except, to be pedantic, Blade of the Immortal isn't exactly manga, is it? :P

The Kenshin manga is good, too. They need to release that faster, here.

Eh, I don't necessarily like the Kenshin Managa that much. Just the whole two stories going at once, annoys me. Who publishes the Hellsing Manga anyways?

You know I'm gonna say it, but the Ranma ½ manga is good. I'd also reccomand Inu Yasha and Gunslinger Girl. And if you can find it, the Zelda mangas are good too, very true to the games (the Lake Hilia part in the manga looks exactually like it does in the game) and the drawings are downright incredible.

...Huh? What are you talking about?

Anyways, Blade of the Immortal would be my top recommendation. I like Hikaru no Go and BLAME! too.
