It's just I shy away from well-publicized movies (snobby elitist fag speaking) and Inception especially struck me because the reviews prior to release were pretty much universal in saying that "the movie was good, but the public is too drugged up on ritalin to catch what is going on." Just seemed like a ploy they used so everyone would watch it and think they were sharp and insightful, which made me doubt it's authenticity. I should watch it though, because, without all the hullabaloo around it, the movie is about dreams which is a theme I like to explore, especially with movies. Plus, if I think it sucks, I can just pretend it's because my tastes are too well-refined to fall for such obvious pandering.
tl;dr I'm a film snob and I think all movies should be seen in poorly-kept art house theaters

Just saw Into the Wild. Inspiring movie, to say the least. Basically, it's about this guy who goes into the wild and finds a potato. Riveting, I know.

Bah! Both a friend and I, who are often film snobs at times, really enjoyed Inception!

Sweet. So, it works towards it's marketed demographic. Good to know. In the meantime, I saw Session 9, and if I could figure out how to embed youtube video onto this forum here, I would insert an especially witty clip from the Oscar-nominated* film.

Re: Movies you must see
Did you see it in 3D? I hear it makes good use of 3D.

Re: Movies you must see
I went to see Megamind in 3D last week. My husband and I laughed through the whole thing and the 3D effects were pretty cool. I would put it on the "Go see it" list. I.G. was reluctant at first to go see a "cartoon" but after I encouraged him by pouting
he went and said he was really glad he did. Oh and the AC/DC and Gun's N Roses soundtrack didn't hurt either.

True Grit was a great western, IMO. Although, I also saw the old John Wayne version on AMC, and I have difficulty saying which is a better movie, despite the improved film-making tricks of modern Hollywood.

Re: Movies you must see
The True Grit remake was amazing and did a great job capturing the feel of the original without coming off as a modern carbon copy. But I agree, it's hard to say which is bettern, the modern one or the original. I'm glad it did so well, I'd love to see more westerns being made today since good westerns have become too few and far between.
Speaking of westerns, The Good, The Bad, and the Weird was a pretty fun Korean western film.

Re: Movies you must see
The Coen brothers "True Grit" isn't so much a remake of the John Wayne adaptation as it is a new movie based on the original novel. Apparently it's a lot more faithful to the book than the old version was. I've never seen the John Wayne version, but I absolutely freaking LOVED the Coen brothers version.
