Yeah, we had those in Guatemala. Scary as fuck when you move a box to see one of those staring at you...
Haha! This one looks a whole lot like some aliens in a couple of stories from Calvin & Hobbes:

Both of those links on camel spiders are, while technically correct, vastly misleading. Whie their venom is not designed to kill (as is the black widow's) or partially digest (the brown recluse) but to numb the area around the bite so they can feed undesturbed. The camel spider gets it's name because it was often found on the camel's hump merrily chomping away while the camel in question would continue on with business clueless as to what was happening.
When I was in Kuwait, several years ago, I was told a story of a young military member waking up with one of those monstrosities on his face. It had apparently been there for a while as there was a sizable portion of his cheek missing. If I remember correctly, he woke up to the sound of his alarm clock.
Also, aside form being ugly and sneaky, these are ferociously aggresive little buggers that have absolutely no fear of people what so ever. I speak from personal experience at this point. I had just finished using the bathroom in one of the trailer's common to a semi-permanent base, when I looked down and saw a camel pider just a few feet away. So, naturally, I kicked it across the floor thinking: a) that'll teach it to come sneaking up on me, it'll scuttle off now and b) It's probably a bad idea to try and step on something that wears shoes several sizes larger than my own. Hoo boy....was I wrong. That spider rolled back up onto it's 'feet', kinda rolled all eight of it's shoulder's all threatening like, gave me one helluva dirty look, and charged. I skedaddled.
And, in case you're not scared yet...
Due to all the recent military deployments to southwest Asia, these highly terrifying creatures have been hitching rides back to the States and seem to be surviving in some small numbers.

Drunkpikle, you are correct. We just had a class on dangerous animals out here, seeing as how it's starting to warm up, and this was one of the subjects. Your description is correct.
They told us not to shoot them (I guess for conserving ammo and reducing the risk of fratricide), but I'll tell ya, I have a 9mm round just waiting....

When I wa 14 I was bitten in the back by a little brown recluse spider. The good news is that the back being a central area helped diffuse the venom, and also no apparent affect on any major organs. The bad side of it is that your back is in a central area. So, many movements you can make all can cause your back to move. Now, consider that, and all the while you could swear that every single muscle in your back was torn. Not just pulled, but torn. For the first day I just laid as still as I could, didn't eat solid food as chewing flared some pain. Over the course of maybe 4 or 5 days it ran it's course, but I would say that is probably the most pain I've ever been in.
The big spiders I'm cool with it's those damn poisonous little f*ckers that give me the heebie jeebies. And of course both the brown recluse and black widow are indigenous to where I live heh.

I am so tempted to show that picture to my dad, but he would probably vomit on me. He's squeamish, and I guess it doesn't help that he's been bitten by a violin (recluse) spider.
I haven't really had any bad experiences with bugs, but they creep me out anyway.
Ugh, I noticed a big black spider in my rabbit's hutch once, and when I told my mother, she was like "Oh, it's dead." Of course the next time I see it it has MOVED. And once there was a similar spider crawling around on a rabbit blankey left out on the grass...
But I don't have as big a problem with spiders as, say, centipedes and the like. Those are SCARY. I once saw a milipede for sale at a pet store, and it was this giant writhing coil...
