Are viruses* alive?
Leopard is right; it's obviously a nonpolar substance (why it isn't "wet." Gasoline isn't wet, either.) although I think it might share more than a few physical properties with water.
That, or it's really no big deal and the whole thing's just a publicity stunt.

re humanity as a virus: The difference between humanity and, say, rabbits, Sev who says all life is (and you're right) is we have the capacity for intelligence and education such that we can turn away from viral impulses and, say, control breeding so such doesn't happen (though in an uneducated place such natural viral order will reassert itself)
