More to the point: Why do good things happen to bad people?

Post by Imperator Severn » Wed Apr 28, 2004 6:00 pm

Bad people meaning, of course, all people - me - people who give me money, sex, or some combination of the two.

How come they are allowed to live? They waste their lives being happy when they should be helping others be happy, primarily me. Self-centered bastards. Just because they want to make enough money to live, they build shit all over the place when I'd rather look at wilderness.

If you see these people, please shoot them. Check in your bathroom. I hear they hide behind the window at back of your sink.

Remember the lesson in that South Park episode in which Cartman got a theme park?

Yes, Mew Guy, I get ALL my wisdom from episodes of South Park.

Good things happen to bad people because they can go after what they want in life without having to follow guidelines such as justice, morality, and compassion.

The good people are upset by this. Some of them become artists so they can bitch and whine poetically about how life treats them unfairly. They decide to make almost every single book, play, and movie end with the good guys winning and the bad guys getting what they 'deserve'. I suspect the opposite is often true in the real world.

All life is suffering because life entails 'wants'. Excessive wants cause pain.
I'll put something here eventually...

How do you define 'good' things and 'bad' things?

Talk about a question for the ages. I'll list a fw I can think of right now.

1. Good in terms of function (It does what its supposed to)
2. Good in terms of personal happiness (It gives me pleasure)
3. Good in terms of overall happiness (It makes the most number of people happy)
4. Good in terms of tradition (It's always been done this way)
5. Good in terms of acceptability (Society says so)
6. Good in terms of religion (God[s] say[s] so)
I'll put something here eventually...

Good as in serving your life. Anything that causes happiness obviously is good for you as positive stimulus indicates the choice best for continuing your life. But of course a certain degree of thinking is involved because some things feel good at first but ultimatly bring about pain.
All life is suffering because life entails 'wants'. Excessive wants cause pain.
Wanting what you do not deserve will cause you pain and is anti-life. Not getting what you deserve is only caused by people wanting what they do not deserve and thus causing you pain. Not only do people who want to have that which they have not worked for destroy themselves, but those around them.

If I killed a guy and stole his Porche, it would make me slightly happier, but his 6 loving kids wouldn't be very pleased. Is killing for money good?

I frankly do not believe you would be happy with that. I do not think anyone can be truly happy getting money you do not deserve.

Yeah, Justin Timberlake cries himself to sleep every night :)

If noone ever got happier from killing people, we wouldn't have any homicides would we?
