Martin- It's a pretty simple concept- Make a post, get x amount of virtual cash/credits/points, which you can then use to buy virtual items/special priveleges/whatever the mods feel like implementing for it. I've seen it run on a few different forums, Zengyro's has nothing in the way of special priveleges, just items (which get shown in your profile, IIRC.).

Another place I went to for a while would let you change others titles, or your own, or even become a mod (albeit a limited one) in one of the forums (I think it was the equivalent of our Forum Games.).

Mallmonkeys.com, as I recall, also let you buy items, but would put them under your name, so everyone could see just how much of a loser you were. If you got certain combinations of items, a title change could result.

Righto Martin here's what I'm thinking. The game, as Soth has stated lets you win money (if possable a random amount to make the game more competive and interesting) when you post. With this money you can buy things that you trade with other players if you want. Or as in the forum I linked in my first post, special items that might for example, put a shadow on your username or prehaps let you change your custom title, but feel free to change what items we can and can't get. That's the gist of it anyway read my first post for more detail about the game, where to get it and ideas on reducing postwhoring

Sorry, but I think it's a dumb idea. Whenever someone makes a post... ANY post that someone else might think pointless (Even if the majority think it does have a post) there will be some kind of "OMG YOU JUST MADE THAT FOR MONIES!! WTF!" flame war.

I dunno about that Jamie, I doubt that would happen on any but the most retarded posts, and, even then, if the person has a sense of humor and realized the post is retarded, would probably add a "money++" in the same way some of us add "postcount++" to our own retarded posts.

There's always the option of running a test forum with it, or simply only implementing it in one or two forums, again, as a test.

ex. Forum games. Just run it as a test in there (I don't think the accusations of point whoring would show up, what with the whole "Every post in forum games is worthless" thing and all.). and see where it goes.

And maybe it's just me, but I don't think it would be too ridiculous, depending on what is and is not implemented in it.

Example-

Special nick effects- Actually, that'd be kinda cool, and not too outlandish, though we'd have to put up with noobs going "OMG HOW DID U BOLD UR NAME?!?!" But then again, we had to put up with noobs asking constantly about the Shirt Ninja Wallpaper until the stickied topic for that went up.

Titles are going to be right out. No chance. Management has already said stuff to that effect repeatedly. The masses having access to title changing in any way, shape, or form is never going to be a reality. Period. Shut up.

Banning- Again, no chance in hell.

Items- I doubt people would place enough value on items to give a crap about it, excepting of course, if they were visible on your posts, rather than just your profile. Then it would probably suck up server space and slow the place down, and, thusly, suck.

Spammage- At best, I'd expect a few "Gimme money" posts, which would probably result in the loss of all current money that person has as mod revenge for being teh sux. No real forum angst about it.

Accusation of point whoring- Question- When was the last time someone got accused (when it wasn't some serious evidence.) about post whoring? Never? Really? You think? C'mon, we're immature, but we're not THAT bad.

Other purchasables- Maybe new abilities / options / items? I.e. a new forum skin, or a wallpaper from Greg (or whomever), or the ill-fated Real Life winamp skin? I mean, really, the possibilities are endless, and that would be super-cool (Yes, I said super-cool, wanna fight about it?!). I would totally donate a wallpaper or something.

The main problem I have with this is that it would only benefit a small percentage of the forum members. People like myself that don't feel the need to post in every thread would get almost nothing out of it. Personally I don't care about things like this, but some people might feel left out.

So then, should we get rid of the birthday code because someones birthday is on February 29th? After all, they'd feel left out too.

Maybe we should get rid of every forum skin but Real Life and Real Life 2.0? After all, only a small percentage of people use the other ones.

Also, really, is an incentive to post more* a bad thing?

It could be bad, just look at some of the stuff that gets posted now. Just think what will happen if you get prizes for posting like an over caffeinated monkey playing with a doorbell. Eventually we will all go crazy and try to kill each other.

I doubt the addition of a 'money' system would make the stupid crap that gets posted already any worse than it already is. Further, Zen already pointed out earlier in the thread the configurability inherent in (at least his) money script. You could set it to if there is x posts in y minutes, then the person gets no more money for the day.

Or simply cap the gain to a certain amount each day, which would also work, of course, that would invariably lead to, if we hold to your paranoid fantasy, people posting only that many times each day for the soul purpose of getting the points to get whatever. Which is really a rather lame theory to put forth if most of the stuff can only be used on the forum anyways. Kinda shooting yourself in the foot there, know what I mean?

That's a good idea about a trial though, that way we can really see if it will be as doomsdayish as the nay sayers claim it will be.
