Has a moderator drop box been suggested before? It's just a board exclusively for the purpose of users going and reporting rule violating threads. I figure it would make the lives of the mods a bit easier because instead of having to scour the forums looking for crap threads, they can just head to the drop box, use the link provided by the user, go there and fix it and afterword delete the thread.

It'd probably turn into a flame-forum

"Delete this thread, its so stupid"

"No its not! ur stupid!!!"

"You suck!!"

"Haha I guess the mods will have to delete THIS thread now lololol"

"oh the irony"

In theory you're right, but in practice I've seen drop boxes used before and it seems to work well.

For instance, asuming this were the drop box, I could go and report this thread

for being random spam.

Well gee, thanks for clearing that up. For those of you nay sayers that think it'll turn into a flamewar thread, I can provide links to a forum that has used one for about a year now without that happening.

I have it on a test board, and though I haven't looked at it in a few weeks, there were some code issues. I may go back to it again soon, though.

Yep, I necroed this thread. Ticket system where only and all the Mods and Admins can see it, but normal users can post to it. They can tell the other mods if it has been fixed or to delete the ticket(post).

Time is a factor. I'm hoping to be able to tackle it again this weekend, but I have some other technical issues to jump on first.

Or - although I can see this being a bitch to code - a forum which automatically locks threads after the initial post?

It's not hard to code. That would be something that, upon sending the post, would check for the forum it's in and, if in that forum, set the thread to locked.

Though I don't know what it would be good for.

I am working on some things this weekend; I hope that forum coding will be on that list.
