Change to 1024x768
I haven't browsed at 800x600 since 1996, so I have no personal problem with a redesign. However, there are a few things I think Greg should keep in mind:
1) The screen may be set to 1024x768, but significant portions of the screen real estate may be eaten up. People on KDE often have a double-sized taskbar; people with AIM docked lose a fairly hefty chunk of screen space; Google Toolbar, Alexa Toolbar, and various other bits and pieces can cause even more space to be eaten up. I would encourage Greg to add in a great deal of "grace room" so that, say, AIM users don't have to scroll back in forth just to read a news post.
2) While I'm sure the Firefox team greatly appreciates your endorsement, Gecko-based browsers may not be a great solution for Real Life Comics. I run Mozilla 1.6 on this computer (it's my sister's), and when scrolling down the page using mouse or mousewheel, horizontal white lines form at every place where the scrolling stops, from the top of E3 Week 2004 to the top of "Cool Link of the Week." If the problem is fixed in 1.7 or Firefox, that's great, but I'd be hesitant to endorse a product if it doesn't work perfectly with your site.
That's all. Good luck with the redesign.

Who the hell docks AIM?
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."
"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."

Bah people with docked anything are silly ... i like my IE dockless and my MSN Messenger ...if its even on minimized unless active. RAWR PHEAR MY FULL SCREEN USAGE.... and anything less that 1024 x 768 is uncivilized and anything more than that on a desktop is like adding muffler tips to a ugly civic. Sure they look nice but your car still ugly. A friend of mine once said "Dude my dfesk top resolution is so huge!" and i said "Why?"and he said ".... um er .... DUDE ITS HUGE!!!"

White lines?! The hell? o_o;
Uhm...I just tested the site in both Firefox (<3) and Mozilla 1.5, and there's no evidence of your "white line" theory. Maybe it's a Linux thing, unless you're running XP...then you might wanna investigate the matter.
KDE's taskbar is commonly at the bottom...honestly, I don't understand how ANYBODY could have a side taskbar...it just looks so strange that way. o_o;
Oh, and really, who DOCKS AIM? Or anything for that matter? It's a monumental waste of desktop space, especially when it crashes...then you have a big bar of nothing on the side of your screen that's a bitch to get rid of. :/

Re: Change to 1024x768
I use Mozilla, and my screen looks like that when it's loading, and then quickly goes normal.
Also, I dock AIM. I have so many buddies, it has to be as tall as my screen (1280*1024) to fit everyone online without having to scroll. It also keeps it from getting covered up by useless windows, O ai always see when someone logs on. Yay! And it never crashes, and if it doesn, the ever handy "End Task" feature rids me of the pesk immediately.

I just love having to select text to be able to read it.[/quote]
I get that same problem too, but hey, after a second, THE BACKGROUND LOADS. Just like with Penguin.
However I'm using mozilla. it's just not dling the bg until it views it, which is oddly logical, what if i were to change pages without ever looking at that image? Waste of bw. Either that or its not loaded because of the way the browser is.

hahaha i don't come to these forums anymore
It doesn't always happen, but it happens frequently enough to be annoying. And it happens on both computers I use, and no, it isn't just the background loading. If you scroll it enough eventually it will randomly decide to render the background image.
Otherwise it'll just sit there with the helpful white text on a white background.
Because it isn't 100% reproducible, the asses at Mozilla.org won't look into it. Just like every other bug not reported by people who work for AOL.

Try this
Type "about:config" (minus quotes) into the address bar of firefox
Type "timeout" in to the filter text box
Change the network.http.connect.timeout value to something like "180"
By default it's 30(seconds) meaning that any connection (to download an image, say) that is not established in 30 seconds is dropped. You could also try tweaking the other http.*.timeout options.

Re: Change to 1024x768
I almost never have apps at full screen, but for RL I have a pretty big margin of space on the right for my regular web browsing size... so I'm sure it'll be fine. People who dock are probably used to scrolling all the time anyway.
Also, about the lack of comicage... I've had that sort of thing happen and have missed work.
Obviously the subconscious mind has no interest in ending weekends early.
