Best Video Game Ever?

Video Games seem to be getting more and more advanced everyday. However Halo seems to hold true as the best video game so far to date (until Halo 2 of course). What do you all think is the best video game of all time.

Halo is quite far from being the best video game ever. Hell, it's not even the best X-Box game ever, despite being their number one selling game. The PC version should not even be a consideration, because by the time it was released it was so severely outdated it wasn't funny.

How do you take into account the people that don't like first person shooters? Are they just wrong in their gaming tastes, since OBVIOUSLY Halo is the best game ever? How could they not like the best game ever? Are they freaks?

I have seen very little in Halo that has not been done elsewhere, and most of the time I have seen it better. I have played first person shooters that I have enjoyed far more than Halo, and pretty much everything released since it was has been quite technically superior. How is it, then, that I don't like the best game ever? If it were the best game ever, it would appeal to everyone, would it not? Because unless everyone likes it, there are obviously other games that are better.

Definitely not Halo. It wasn't that it did anything wrong in it's design- it's just it didn't do anything that right either. Just a mediocre shooter, in my opinion.

But here are some games that I really do think are some of the greatest games of all time (I could never pick one, so I'm going to do it in categories...)

My favorites...
FPS- Marathon
RTS- StarCraft
RPG- Xenosaga Ep. 1
Action- The Legend of Zelda- Ocarina of Time
Fighting- Soul Caliber II

X-Box Halo, as far as gameplay, was outdated when it was released! It would have been truely innovative if it had been released on it's ORIGINAL pre-MS schedule. As it was, it was good, but didn't stand out as much as it could have. There were better FPS games before, and I'd say better since as well.

As for what is the best game of all time....... Uh..... I'd have to say either Half-Life or Starcraft. Past that, I think it's comparing apples to oranges.

My list of best games ever

PC: Septerra Core: Legacy of the creator

PSX : Final Fantast 7 (most will agree i guess)

PS2: Final Fantasy X-2

Gamecube : Skies of arcadia legends / Zelda

Xbox : none in my eyes at the moment. Fable is on my list of nomination though ^^
