Today's rant

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Today's rant

Post by Rembrandt Q. Einstein » Thu Jun 17, 2004 5:11 am

Okay, first the obligatory apology if this in indeed re-posted, as I did not see a topic about his in either "Comic" or "General Chat", and I doubt it would be anyhwere else.

Greg. I don't know why you never said this earlier. I remember the recent Goth hate thread, and the sheer absurdity of it, plus the most recent french joke and many others, but really, you just needed to tell people to stop their whining since you don't give a shit, and I congratulate you on having "le balls" to do it. This has been a long time coming.

Don't let the idiots out there with skin the width of rice-paper piss you off. I mean, if you posted a comment about how the Aryan race shall rise above and conquer the inferior Jews...I might get worried, but people need to learn how to take jokes, and you have to stand up for your right to make them. Nice work.

Now just stick to it : )

I agree totally. My comic offends just about everyone, and I've come to realize that you truly just need to create as you will. Art is supposed to express, to affect, and even offend. You are trying to invoke thoughts and feelings in another, and you can't do that if you are constantly culling your creation, reducing to the lowest, least offending denominator.

So I say," BOO-YAH" to Greg. Don't cash in your artistic integrity for anyone.

However, Greg's apparent attitude of arrogantly mocking those who disagree or dislike what he does is a bit offputting.

I think Greg is right in his stance that it's his strip and he can do what he wants with it and that it's your choice whether to read or not, but the general attitude on this forum of "You said something I disagree with! What a n00b!" is irritating.

Power to you greg. Eggman shall rule us again! and we shall all rejoice in his ruling and all shall be as it was. so said the crazy man.

"am i the crazy man?" you ask no im not thats him over there in the corner.
So everyone should go and eat him... yeah eat him good and we will be happy again for eggman will be the god amongst the chickens. Fear the chickens they will take us oneday with their perfect disguises and their tasty meat and their suculant eggs.

which brings me to another thought. what came first? Eggman or Chickenman?
I need to get my Kangaroo serviced.

He is talking about those idiots that send him hatefull mails, so, yes, he is right, he shouldn't be interested for those at all...

I mean, it's a free comic, if you like it, sit and read it, if you don't, the internet is open for you to go and find something else

I just want to add my cheers to Greg for this! My group always seems to offend someone. We flat out got accused of displayed buttf***ing during the closing ceremonies of SakuraCon this year. But we always do it with our ideas and desires in mind. Now if we make 400+ people laugh and enjoy themselves and 3 or 4 people get pissed off, thats a damn good ratio. And I'm sure Greg has a lot more happy viewers than that.

Anyways, I'm proud of ya Greg!

I agree with pretty much everything, but Greg DIDadvertise way back in the day. I found this site because of a banner on Penny Arcade. So THERE. :P
Seriously though, I'm glad to see you start to say "My site, My way". I'm surprised you even get one hatemail a month. People who have a problem with this site are overly sensitive, or just looking for a fight.
Now Squidi...THAT guy's offensive.

Um, if there was a banner on Penny Arcade (which shocks me), I never put it there. Seriously... I've never advertized Real Life. Ever.
However, Greg's apparent attitude of arrogantly mocking those who disagree or dislike what he does is a bit offputting.
Honestly, I don't give a shit. Here's the thing people need to understand. I fully support everyone's right to dislike what I do. I expect that a good deal of people dislike what I do. I'm fine with that. The people I have a problem with are the people who, rather than make the choice to leave, feel it is their duty to CHANGE what I do to suit their needs.

The rant wasn't really about the comic, even. For the most part. The rant was regarding a select few people who were getting up at arms about the fact that Liz posts on the main page. I'm not forcing anyone to read anything, so them getting upset by it really ticked me off. Frankly, Fuggle, my rant was INTENDED to be a bit off-putting. I don't need loyalty from anyone. It's not as though I'm some public ruler that needs to worry about his public image. I do the comic for solely personal reasons, and if people can't respect that, I'd rather they stopped reading than come to me with dissent. Coming to my website is a choice people make, and to stop coming is as easy as removing it from your favorites list. Nobody is entitled to my website.
Now Squidi...THAT guy's offensive.
I am an avid reader of many a comic (among them Real Life, Sluggy Freelance, and a whole bunch of MWF comics,) but I also read A Modest Destiny (Squidi's comic) and I read his blog he's put off to the side. (Note: If you don't know some of what Squidi's willing to do online look at the second and third paragraphs (as well as much of the rest) of this entry.

That (I think) is what Greg is trying to manage. He wants statements that ballsy on such a regular basis. Of course, is he willing to be called offensive at as high a clip as Squidi? He has to figure that out.

PS: Sorry about some of this, whenever anyone tries to beat up on Squidi I get a bit defensive. Just look at his comic (he's been going daily since the beginning of 2003 without missing a day and he provides extra content all over the place,) plus it is one of the best comics I've read in story continuation and daily humor. Plus, he's willing to put himself out there and be called an asshole for it. I've got to give him a little praise for that.
Don't freak until froken to.

GO GREG! :)
It is wonderful to see you claim the ownership of your domain as yours and to do with as you feel the need!
From Spammers claiming they own your domain to people telling you how to do the site you have taken it back and made it your own as it always was.
Constructive critisim I think you already know is one thing, flaming you for doing things your way well, those bastards should be taken out, killed brought back to life and killed again. (Every other thursday, except holdiays.)

Now if you could give Piro on megatokyo some lessons on this, he could use it. The poor guy apologizes more than congress...
