How many CDs should a game have?
My friend and I were having a discusion about this the other day. I say it doesn't matter how many CDs it takes as long as it's a good game, just don't waste my time with four CDs of crap. My friends says no game should be longer than two CDs, other wise it's just wasting time. What do you guys think?
Vaiyo A-O (Fighters fight the fight)
A Home Va-Ya-Ray (For their home and their heart)
Vaiyo A-Rah (We fighters will win or die)
Jerhume Brunnen-G (Forever we are the Brunnen-G)

Depends on the game and if its good. UT2k4 is 6 cds, but half of them are just maps. I would say they are almost too deteailed and could be a bit smaller if the designers cares more about gameplay and less about looks but thats just me.
Now when it comes to RPG, if most of those cd's are cutscenes they better be good cutscenes. But please please don't make the game turn into a movie with short spurts of gameplay between scenes. Even some non rpgs do this. Pick any game from a movie. Please god if its all cutscenes make sure they load off the disc so they don't waste the hd space.
I do like the fact that some games that take several cds are being distributed as DVD too, such as UT2k4. Only problem is that it still has to be copied to the hd to play. But I guess that keeps loading times down.

The thing about UT2004 is that you have to install it once, and then you never need the CDs again unless you re-install it. I've no problem with that. However, I don't like games that then say "You've reached part x, please insert disk 2", which I think BG did if you didn't do the full install.
Sloth: Am I a year behind already?

February was some lyrics or quotes month or something. I don't even remember what year all this was.

It should only require one disk to play. Ever.
Better still, it should follow UT's example, and use none to play. I musta installed that on about 10 rigs by now...

Agreed. Follow Unreal Tournament's example. And in today's age of multi-CD games, one nice old DVD, and a full install that actually means more than more hard drive space wasted and you still have to put in the friggin cd every time you want to fucking play the shitty thing.

It doesn't really matter too me a whole bunch for games like the final fantasy series, where once you're on a disk you're there for a bit until you get to the next disk.. if something like UT2K4 needed you to put in disk 5 to load one map and then disk 2 to load another I'd get pissed off..
I really need a new sig....

I remember playing Civilisation on the Amiga. 2 disk changes before you got into the game, and you had to switch to disk 4 (then switch back on return) for the Civilopedia.
And yet I've still seen moans about a single disc-switch halfway through Resident Evil or Metal Gear Solid (to name two examples) on the GC
Some people don't know how lucky they are
