bitching about a 1480?
If I remember correctly I got a 1120 or something like that. I left knowing I did shitty, I felt like crap, I never studied at all, yet I still never bothered to retake it.

(I am absolutely not going to tell anyone that I got an 1160 when I got a chance to take the most of the SAT in 7th grade, I am not going to say it.)

Oh damn.

Your SAT's or even your GPA can be perfect and you can be rejected by any of those schools. Don't complain about it. That SAT is adequate mostly. You had better have a damn decent course load in HS, lots of extra curricular activities and some community involvement. My HS/early college BF went to MIT for physics, graduated from there and did his Doctorate work at Yale. I think it ended up being astrophysics and NASA funded it. I think he is still there doing Post-Doc work.

He was the sort schools fought over and had a tiny bit lower SAT than yours, although that was a long time ago and they have adjusted the SAT scoring system since then by over 100 points.. it is hard to compare scores. The big thing that got him in besides scores and grades was all the sports, drama, community service, serving as a page at the State house, and even being the first student on the county school board. He did things that made him stand out from all the other bright bookworms. That was the key.

Do you stand out in some way?

Edit: ninja-ed by MC, but that's okay!

Well, it is an Ivy League school, but I'm pretty sure that Ragnarok7331 is just being very paranoid or competitive... kinda reminds me how my classmates are like back here in Hong Kong. :)

I would think that with 1480 you have a very fair chance at getting into Harvard, or at the very least a good Physics school. And sheesh! 1480? What percentile is that? 97-99? I'm not sure if the SAT difficulty suddenly dropped or not, but I'm pretty sure that it has to be above a 96th percentile.... and judging from the SAT scores of admitted Harvard students, that probably places you among the average group. So stop worrying about your scores!

What you should also be looking at is your extra-curricular activities.... after all scores alone aren't going to get you everywhere.

Of course, I recommend seeing some form of college advisor from Havard, see what they have to say about your score.

(P.S. SAT Math is really simple, so a majority of mistakes come from one simple idea - carelessness. Did you double check? Did you double-double check? And, if you had more time, did you double-double-double check? :P)

Wait... FORCE you to VOLUNTEER?

Secondly, if those "overinvolved conformist idiots" get better SAT scores, and are involved in more groups, thus being more well-rounded, don't they say... deserve the scholarship/collage acceptance?

I have to agree with iggz. I was a straight A student in highschool, I totally owned on the PSAT, but I had to take the SAT three times, and my highest score was a 1080. So suck it up, cupcake; you can always take it again if you're not happy with your way-above-average score

And for the record, I still don't believe those standardized tests are any real measure of intelligence.
