Being a homemaker.

Talk about whatever you feel like.

Anything wrong with that?

What?! A homemaker? Blasphemy!

Being a homemaker.

Post by The Forum Hillbilly » Mon Jun 28, 2004 2:20 am

I was talking to a person I know in real life over ICQ and I told him I was baking and i'd be right back. He asked me what was up with me baking so much all of a sudden, and I told him the truth. I just like to bake, it is enjoyable I love to decorate the cakes I made, experiment with the recipes, and so forth.

He said "How very homemakerish of you, *shudder* " I asked him what was wrong with being a homemaker, and he never replyed back.

I think there is nothing wrong with being a homemaker as long as you enjoyed it. I love to cook, I can clean, and keephouse, i've babysat children as young as 1 for days at a time while their parents went out, and there have been 3 to 4 of them running around. I cooked and cleaned for them and everything, and I ENJOY IT!

So my question to you, is there anything wrong with being a homemaker?

I don't see anything wrong with it in a 'blasphemy' or 'sexism' sense, however I'd think that it'd be something of... a waste for someone intelligent like yourself to spend her entire life as a homemaker. Even if it makes you happy... there is more to life than just complacent happiness.

As for the cookie thing, though... I don't see baking in and of itself in any way a homemakerish sort of thing. My sister is one of the most independant young women I know, very much an individual and certainly planning on having a career and everything, but by all accounts she still bakes every week. Homemakers often bake, but people who bake are by no means homemakerish at all. : )

Nothing wrong with it if it's your choice and you know it's what you want to do. I mean it's like telling a guy who's athletically gifted that he should be a pro football player when all he wants to do is be a florist or preacher.

Not a THING wrong with it. I've heard a lot of women want to go back to being a homemaker. It's kinda hard these days to get by on one salary, but anybody, man or woman, should be more than welcome to do that. :)

I think both sexes should feel free to take on whatever roles they want. Both men and women should have the option of a career or of being a homemaker.

I could happily be a homemaker if not for the whole 'raising the children' part. I love to play with children, but I hate to watch them all day. It stresses me out so much to always be watching them, entertaining them, preparing food for them, enduring their tantrums. I would rather deal with them while they're all cute and playful, not when they are screaming their heads off because you won't let them play Monopoly and ice cream and mountain dew is not an acceptable bedtime snack.

So the idea of HAVING a homemaker is a heck of a lot more appealing then BEING one. Having all my laundry done and my suits ironed, the dishes done and the floors vacuumed and the grocery shopping done and dinner on the table and a kiss when I come in the door... that would be awesome. That would be awesome for a woman, too... but most men aren't willing to give up their career. And like Blaze said, it's hard for a family to live on just one income anymore.

Personally, I think being a homemaker would be fun. Now I just need to find a powerful businesswoman to support me while I enjoy myself. Chores and World of Warcraft- that's life.

Hahaha, replace daytime television and soap operas with a healthy dose of VIDEOGAMES. It's the manly way.

I don't see a problem with being a homemaker as long as you are happy. It only becomes a problem if you let it be the only thing in your life.

Nothing wrong with it. If you like baking, keep doing it. Better than going out and killing your liver.

I'd like to be a homemaker if not for the children, the staying in a house all the time, the not talking to anyone interesting, the children, the not having any chance of leading a great horde to destroy industrial civilization and turn the world back to hunter-gatherer economy, and the not having anything to do but clean and look after children.

Basically, I like food.
