If you can't say anything, say something mean, eh Deacon?
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."
"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."
If anyone watched the Daily Show yesterday (mighta been a rerun, but i don't think so) there was a Michael Moore spoof about a guy trying to make a movie called "Michael Moore Hates America" - it made me think of this thread. And it starts worrying me when real life imitates the interweb.

There's something to be said about leaders who can make their own citizens turn spiteful and shameful of their country.
And even more so those who tick people off so much that they talk about plans to assassinate him on the radio before he even gets into office *cough* you know who I mean.
Take China for example (grew up there); if they allowed the general public to own guns, the elderly would probably assassinate nearly every government official within weeks. And over there if you speak negatively of the government, you get tossed in a cell (and probably get beaten up too).
Fortunately over here, we can't get tossed into cells for venting about politicians, if one were do to so they just get labeled as unpatriotic or called terrorist sympathizers and/or peaceniks.
Yeah, calling people those things are definitely going to make them see it your way.

I don't think "Michael Moore Hates America." I think "Michael Moore Hates Americans."

Have you ever seen the daily show? It's about a serious as SNL. It was a complete spoof. It was just funny.I don't think "Michael Moore Hates America." I think "Michael Moore Hates Americans."
I did it one time and I liked it
So I did it two times, got addicted
Had to do it three times, couldn't help it
And the number four time was the best
The first action of a proper leader in such a circumstance should be to act to gain understanding and find a course of action - instead of sitting there frozen. Sure, you can ask "what would I do?" ... many people would freeze. Some wouldn't. These people who would freeze - this fact should be deeply considered when putting them in a position of leadership. Don't forget he's a leader - how do you want YOUR leader to act in times of crisis?
It's fine to criticize someone well after the fact. I wasn't all that pleased to learn that he sat there in the classroom for another few minutes when that news came out, but in one way, I can't really blame him. That method of attack took a lot of people -- virtually everyone -- by surprise. Nuclear attack? Car bomb at Congress? Someone set loose some VX at the Federal Building in Seattle? Those are quick response things with very definite responses.
I know that when I first heard of the impact, not long after it happened, I jumped out of bed and ran in to check the TV. I watched events unfold, trying to get my mind wrapped around it, and he may have been doing exactly the same thing. How does one respond to an attack of that magnitude and using civilian airliners as massive weapons? That was apparently not one of the contingency plans that was considered much before 9/11, so he may not have been prepared for it.

Oh I dunno, though I don't particularly like Kerry (annoyed is more like the word), pretty much 80% of the ads I see over here in Washington (the state) is of chopped quotes of Kerry saying one thing and then the opposite. If that's not chopping I don't know what is.
The difference in times the quotes given were fairly spaced out, and under very different circumstances (before and after the war began).
I'm a bit disgruntled that the first year I get to vote I'm going to be voting AGAINST someone rather than voting FOR someone.

I guess I'm the only person who didn't think it was completely unbelievable. Mebbe I'm a horrible human being, or maybe I'm too cynical.
But either way, the point still stands that he didn't even go to look at a TV...

Watching events unfold? Well, I guess maybe he has telepathy ... but for wrapping his head around it, if it took him that long to comprehend the situation, we would come back to my statement that such a man probably shouldn't be president, and one element a candidate should posess is some sort of way to quickly integrate stunningly new facts into their thought processes at something resembling speed. ... If Bush froze for several minutes due to that, what will he do if something worse happens?I watched events unfold, trying to get my mind wrapped around it, and he may have been doing exactly the same thing.

It took me a good twenty minutes from the second plane impacting to force through what was happening. He took about five to seven minutes, from all accounts, to finish what he was doing, rise, and leave. And you know, maybe it was just bad judgement on his part. Maybe it only took him a minute to put it all together and consider his course of action, and he chose one that, in attempting to leave the children unspooked, spooked a lot of other people. Unless and until he sits down and explains what was going through his mind, which I don't think he's ever done, I don't know what was there, and unless you're a telepath, I'm pretty damned sure all you're doing is speculating and using that speculation to attribute to him what you'd like to think of as the truth whether or not you have any evidence for it.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

Nah, just means you've kept up with world events and knew the status of our relations with other countries.
And people around me in my HS were all like "WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?! WHY DID THIS HAPPEN?!?!"
I had to restrain myself from going off cause well... yeah... not many people around me were really into world history and it woulda been a pain to go through it all.
I really wanted to slap some of them for their ignorance but ehh... it wasn't their fault the American education system sucks.
