I want to give Naruto a try. But I've read the first volume of the manga, and I've got a feelign it's going ot be really predictable and repetative (same with Samurai Deeper Kyo) ... any news good or ill on that front?
"He who lives by the sword dies by my arrow."
"In your histories, there are continual justifications for all manner of hellish actions. Claims of nobility and heritage and honor to cover up every bit of genocide, assassination, and massacre. At least the Horde is honest in their naked lust for power."

Yeah, Naruto does have quite a few surprises. Just when you think everything is going to be okay, something else goes totally wrong.
I watched the first 70 or so episodes, then started having problems with BitTorrent or something. It is a really good show - and it doesn't stereotype ninja too much, either.
Sadly, I only ever got through one full storyline in the first 70 episodes. The second story was waaaaaay too long and I never finished it.

Seen the first coupla episodes subbed. Sorta meh, not really funny, but not really bad.
And it must be out in the US somewhere. A friend of mine got it off EBay in $US. First huge chunk of the subbed anime on VHS, and all the manga in .pdf format.

Naruto is OK. It's a cut above most shonen manga/anime, but so far it hasn't managed to avoid some of the horrible cliches of shonen manga, namely the "30+ episode tournament". Does anyone else besides me have a problem with that? It's basically an excuse for the writer to skip writing a storyline and just invent wierd enemies for the heroes to fight. DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho... they all have tournaments!
That said, Naruto is still pretty good. Even if it's not too original, it's kind of fun.
