What game made you a gamer?

Post by daemon princess » Sat Mar 22, 2003 10:41 pm

Most people have one game that they remember as their first game, or the first one that got them into gaming. What's yours?

Me: My parents didn't allow me to play video games, so I didn't get a chance to play until I moved out when I was 16. Tomb Raider II caught me in obsession immediately and then FF7 pinned me as a gamer for life. ^_^

I wasn't a really big gamer (partly because of age) until two games changed things: Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time and Final Fantasy VIII, which I beat on the same day. They're still my two favorite games!

Three stages to me becoming a gamer:
1. Playing Atari back in the day...
2. Then along came Sega Genesis with the Sonic games and others such as Road Rash and Mortal Kombat.
3. First computer game that got me hooked: C&C Red Alert

Space Harrier for the Master System. It wasn't mine, though. I played it at my sister's friend's house.

I've played video games ever since I was given a NES as a little kid. I remember we got out the powerpad for my birthday and all my friends had fun bringing the house down while jumping hurdles.

When I think about it, the game that really got me OBSESSED with video games was Final Fantasy. The ORIGINAL Final Fantasy. I loved that game so much. When I was 8, I used to get up early at 5 AM and play it before school. There was always a new dungeon to explore, always new weapons to find in treasure chests, tough bosses to fight.

Do any of you remember that WONDERFUL feeling when you got your first airship?

The first game I ever played was 'Breakout' (one of them block hitty paddle games) on the Atari 2600.

The first game I remember really enjoying, the one that got me well and truly hooked was 'Head over Heels' on the ZX Spectrum (I had a +2 doncha know)

I still get all nostalgic for my Spectrum loading times (not the games of course - I have an emulator, but for some reason they always fail to emulate that bit)

wow, that seems so silly these days - if you saw a game that made you wait between 10 and 60 minutes for it to load - every times you played it - you'd just laugh and walk away.

I used to regularly sit back and wait.

I've been playing games since the Atari 2600 days but my first video game obsession was probably the arcade version of Space Harrier.
