1 min comic load times

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

1 min comic load times

Post by Sokratz » Wed Jul 21, 2004 4:35 pm

What's going on here? I'm sitting on a T1 and ever since the new layout it's been unbearable to even get the comic. Decent ping times, and plenty of bandwidth availabe on my end. Tried a few diff computers too.

What's the dilly?

I've found it a tad slow, too but its not that bad.

I agree, its an acceptable rate of download. Though sometimes I do get errors saying that the next document contains no data, but eventually it loads.
Do you want to save before you quit?

I too have noticed a delay when trying to access the page. I would have to say it probably takes 20-30 seconds to load on average.

I don't see any one thing taking a long time either. Right-clicking on items and going to save as, is very quick. For Example, right-click on the comic png and go to save as, or on the previous button (Save picture as). Then right click on the previous picture and go to Save Target as, and hello lag.

Also, if you use the mouse to quickly move from left to right over the nav bars, it can't keep up with the pictures so the bar stays mostly not loaded. Scrolling back and forth usually ends up meannig 20 or so items wait to get downloaded.

On the other side, these forums are super quick.

hmm, lucky me. it only takes about 5 seconds to load. i went to go see a comic from a few years ago (to make sure it wasn't in my temp. files) and it seems just fine. although the new layout does take a bit longer.

It's kind of annoying on dial-up. But hey, I'm on dial-up. I'm used to it. And I always have multiple tabs open on mozilla so it's not really inconveniant.

Cleared cookies, cache, made sure no bad mumbo objects are installed. Virus Scanned, Malware scanned. I squeaky freakin clean. Plus, like I said, I can repeat this on multiple computers.

It runs a bit slow for me as well, but i can deal. no biggie. RL is worth the few seconds extra wait.

I just do the god-blessed "Open In Tabs" option. Suddenly, I have a tab of all my regular web comics loading. So if RLC is taking awhile, I just read the other ones until it's ready for my viewing.

I forget if FireFox has that feature... where you use your bookmark toolbar menu (like i have one named comics), and at the bottom of the menu is Open In Tabs... Can't remember and I'm too lazy to check.

Multiple tabs = godly
no matter the connection you never have to wait more than a few seconds for a page to read
