Questions & (hopefully not many) Problems with the Book

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

Questions & (hopefully not many) Problems with the Book

Post by billf » Sun Aug 08, 2004 8:26 am

I've noticed a lot of questions floating around about the new book Real Life: The Complete Year One Collection.

Most of the info about the book can be found right on the main page of the site, but here it is again anyway.

-The book is 384 pages and contains the entire first years worth of comics.
-Also included is the first year worth of The Forge that was featured at http://www.swordsonline.com
-Commentary on every strip right from the mouth... errr... hand... errr... fingers to keyboard of Greg Dean.
-Plus more surprises that you'll have to buy the book to see :P

The book can be ordered from http://www.starlinemedia.net for 16% off the cover price of $24.95 USD (that's $20.95 for those not willing to do that math).

I believe that the book will eventually be available in some book stores, although I can't remember the specifics of it, I seem to remember someone saying something about Barnes and Nobel eventually carrying it.

If you are having any problems with an order you placed through either http://www.starlinemedia.net, or IC Entertainment (about a year ago, the company that was originally supposed to print the book), please email orders@starlinemedia.net. If you sent them an email a while ago and haven't heard back from them, be sure you emailed the right address. I guess a few people had emailed biz@starlinemedia.net. That is NOT the right address. If you sent an email there it should have been forwarded on to the correct person, but things get lost sometimes. If you haven't heard back, try again at the right address.

Oh, and I have nothing to do with starlinemedia, I'm just a moderator here, so I probably can't answer any of your questions. This is all info I gathered from what is posted in various places right here on the forums.

This isn't really a problem, and it doesn't make much difference, but I ordered the book and the shirt ninja poster from Starline at the same time. Any chance they'll get here around the same time, or if it will take a while long for one or the other ? (Again, it's not that important, I was just wondering if I'll have either to take with me when I leave for college the end of this month)

More info here about orders.

Here's a direct quote:
Hello again folks..

Here is the problem we have been having in a nutshell:

We are shipping the books out directly from the printer (instead of shipping them to ourselves and mailing them out slowly, they will all be sent out in one day.)

Unfortunately, we were under the impression that we could send out the books in small sections. This past week we were notified by the printer that they do not ship like that, and had not shipped the orders we gave them. It was all or nothing.

SO.. we spent sleepless nights compiling all of the orders that we have confirmed payment for into an excel spreadsheet, and we sent that on to the printer.

They wrote back the next day and said they could not use our spread sheet, because they needed address/state/zip all in different cels. (O_o)

So here we are again, re-ordering this list. All books will go out monday/tuesday and everyone should have them between 3 and 6 days after that.

We're doing our best with what we have, folks. We're just as upset about this as you are. :-(

As for regular orders of tee shirts and posters, we have negotiated with a new 3rd party shipping company to send those out, and future books as well. We're just too small to handle this ourselves, and weren't anticipating having to do so much. Very very very sorry.
Hope that answers everyone's questions.

So just to clarify, those of us who have ordered (a while ago in some cases) and haven't gotten our books yet, should be expecting them in the mail in the next week sometime? i.e. between the 9th and the 16th of August then?

Thanks in advance for any clarifications, I was starting to think we'd all gotten scammed good by this Starline company. :(

He doesn't work for starline. Any specific questions you should send to them. Billf really has no way of knowing when they will arrive.

Well, the answer to that particular question can be answered by this:
So here we are again, re-ordering this list. All books will go out monday/tuesday and everyone should have them between 3 and 6 days after that.
So, everyone ideally should have their books by the 16th.

I have to say, I am thoroughly disappointed with the unprofessional attitude of Starline. The very least they could have done is sent e-mails to everyone who ordered explaining exactly why there's been such a huge delay, instead of confusing us with the "NOW AVAILABLE!!" graphic that's been on the front page of the comic for weeks now. If I don't recieve my copy of the book soon, I will be asking for a refund and I'll wait to look for a copy in the bookstores.

If your order was one of the ones that got sent to the wrong email address and didn't get transferred, it's probably possible that they didn't even have your email to notify you of anything.

If I understand correctly, then, the fact my credit card has been charged means I will receive the book soon ?

They must have it, because I got an e-mail some time ago that said my order status had been changed from "STAGNANT" to "PROCESSING". Not that it actually seems to mean anything.

Just a quick update for those who didn't bother to read today's newspost on the main site:

The book should be shipping today. For more details go read todays newspost because I'm tired of quoting other people :P

Well the fact that you are in switzerland will mean it will be a few days more than someone from america.

Yep. Expect at least a couple more days I'd say.

Just to answer that question as well, no. Just because you were charged does not mean the book has shipped. Normally this would be the case, but since the order was taken through PayPal it does not since PayPal is immediate payment and does not allow the seller the option for delayed payment. Starline is working on fixing that by handling billing info through someone else... or at least I seem to remember hearing about that somewhere.
