The Real Life Forums Mock Presidential Election

Post by StruckingFuggle » Thu Aug 19, 2004 7:26 pm

So. It seems like there's enough serious interest to get this thing started...

And by the way, speaking of "serious interest", we have a 'Forums Game' section, because this isn't the place for some of you people reading this. Go there.

Now then, for the rest of you ... I figure we could let it run until November 2nd, when the National election will be, and then having the "election" on that day. So between now and then, who wants to run against me?

The first thing, obviously, is to throw your hat in the ring and declare your candidacy. Who are you, why do you want to be president, what party are you running for and on what platform (please, no "democrats" or "republicans", lets see you peeps inventing your own ... this is as much a chance to field, argue, and refine your own ideas about how to run things as anything else!

I'm not sure if I'm actually running, yet, or if I'll just administrate the whole thing and simulate some "events" so it's not -all- debates.

And keep in mind, it's a RLF mock presidential election, not for presidancy of the forum, but for the President of the United States. So address issues of the nation, not the forum... (oh, but in this case, all you Silly Foreigners are free to run as well. :) )

And, I think for the moment, no campaigning in other, established PACE threads - we've got plenty of room to make "(Mock Election) Issue" threads or "(Mock Election) Debate" threads and all.

If you end up running, Fuggle, then I'll stay out of it (we'd just get in each other's way by saying pretty much the exact same things, I suspect : ) except to comment/discuss and vote, of course. If you end up staying out of it and just administrating the entire thing, then I'll definitely run.

If someone wants to run as your running mate, sure. I don't see why not.

Your future ruler:

Cats with world-domination abmitions aside, some of the platforms/responses/etc. would sure be... interesting :P

Also, will this be done via electoral college, or by popular vote?
(can you even get enough people to participate to run an EC?)

Should each start our own thread with our platform or are all the platforms going to be posted on this one?

randomperson2, I had thought I'd posted ... well, I guess not ... :) ... this is the intro thread. Post anything you think voters should know about you, here.

Ok then sounds good ill give it a go for a start.

I'll run on a classic, Civil Libertarian.

The key component to my domestic policy is the end of moral legislation; It is not the governments place to legislate morality. As a clarification this is related to vice laws, not actual crimes. It would additionally not extend to protection of any act that put any but the offender in harms way.

My monetary agenda will be very much like that of the Republican Party, however I am a strong proponent of a balanced budget amendment.

As for the hot button issue of the race, Iraq-Afghanistan, and more importantly the war on terrorism my thoughts are this.

We are there, for better or worse, regardless of right or wrong we are in the shit now. We cannot back down and we cannot stagnate. However its not to late to do it right.

Instead of the current plans which focus on getting out of there as quickly as possible with the fewest costs, i propose a much more Japanese solution to the problem, build it from the ground up, if it will take brutality to suppress the militants do so, but do so in a careful and deliberate way so as to defeat the current threat without creating a new one.

I'll leave it at that for an outline and can get more specific as the key issues become more defined.

Anything important I left out toss me a msg and ill put it in.

Unfortunately, randomperson2, the government's *sole* job is to enforce a certain level of morality. The platform on which you run, however, may describe that level of morality as very basic. As such, it would only draft and enforce laws that protect the most basic human rights and with only the most basic corporate oversight, taxing only enough to pay for the ability to enforce those laws and to defend the country.

I like that idea :)

This seems to be a problem of semantics, the moral laws I refering to might also be described as vice laws. Not in that, murder is immoral.
