Actually, it just leans on the idea that people can control themselves and make enlightened choices if given enough input.

Well, it was the 'total lack of greed and lust for power' part that was more a bit much. One could argue that greed and lust for power can actually be positive goals if aimed towards the right ends.

And hey, who says unified humanity would be a moral end? We could end up with a bunch of unified, agreeable people who are just wastefull assholes to the rest of the non-human universe. :)
