2004-09-02: Magic replicating swords?

Talk about today's strip, or anything about the comic in general. You can also talk about any of the characters... but don't expect a response. They're FICTIONAL, you guys... sheesh. :)

2004-09-02: Magic replicating swords?

Post by Ilpalazzo » Thu Sep 02, 2004 11:04 am

How come the unnamed Knight can give away the sword in panel 3, yet still (or again) have it at his hip in panel 4 while Greg's alter ego is still holding it at the same time?

Oh, and I am not sure I understood the comment about the server problems fully - *is* there a comic for wednesday or not? For the "previous comic" link goes (as of the time of me writing this) straight to the tuesday comic.

I was also wondering why they both had blue swords in the last panel. :|

Sorry, kiddos. I spent the day in San Francisco with Liz, with her while she went through orientation for classes. She starts taking online classes with the Academy of Art University later this week, and orientation was today. I expected to be home earlier and have time to work on the strip, but traffic being what it is kinda prevented that, unfortunately. Rather than hurry up and put out a crappy strip, I'll take my time to draw it tomorrow at work, so it looks spifftacular and all that. :)

Oh, and in case you're wondering, it's true. I have in fact restarted playing UO. Not doing much at the moment, but I'm currently killing everything in sight to try and gather the gold needed to drop down a nice 18x18 plot on the Tokuno Islands once Samurai Empire comes out. 145K out of 180K needed. Aw yeah. :)
Anything but IE!

Yes, because no one ever has backup weapons. Ever. That would be stupid.

Must be a UO thing we who don't play it don't understand.

 I'm guessing that you guys don't play UO at all? Hehe. The sword was not duped. Different colored weapons are common in UO since the Age of Shadows expansion. Those weapons are randomly dropped by monsters with random stats sorta like Diablo 2. The color of the weapon is the element type of the weapon. So blue in UO is Cold damage.

In the last panel, the knight gave Greg a weak, low stats blue sword and then opened up his bank box and grabbed another better stats blue sword  .

ps. Greg, if you're reading this, what shard do you play on? I'm on Lake Superior. Had my account since 98 but barely touched hit since AoS.

Yeah, eldeuce. That's what I assumed. And I've never played UO. In fact, I've never played an MMOPRG. But I figured he just accessed it from his bank.
But I didn't realize you could get to your bank without being there. The bank is located in your pants?

Uhm, looking at the strip right now, there IS no sword in the other guy's hip in panel 4, so what's this all about? Am I hallucinating, are OTHER people hallucinating, or did Greg alter the strip?

He had to have altered it. It was there.

On a side note most things that happen in a town in UO happen by the bank. It makes sense that he could have grabbed it from his box.

lol, good one Dreamer! Well in UO you can be a little distance away from the bank and still call up the bank or if there's a banker near by and it hears you, your bank will also open up.

OMG he just changed the strip

Greg plays Napa IIRC. I play LS however.

I hope Greg drops in and acknowledges the alacrity with which we point out the little quibbles about the strip :)
