Err, wasn't Easter the anniversary of that Jesus guy's death?
Close, but not exactly. Easter is a holiday that was set because of Christ's resurrection, not his death. Considering his death was three days before he was resurrected, you aren't too far off. (And so it was written, in domine patre un spiritus sanctus...)
It is also symbolic since Easter is set in Spring, the season of rebirth.
Anyway, this is off topic. I just wanted to clarify for Wite_Rabit.

Advice is the easiest when given, and the most difficult when taken.

In Nomine, not Domine. "In the name of the father," rather than "In God Father." In Nomine Patri et Fille et Spiriti Sancti, Amen.

EM waves at the hydrogen frequency travel no faster than a wave at another frequency.

Hydrogen's frequency is considered to be very basic -- there's more of it than any other frequency in the universe -- and so is considered a prime candidate for broadcasting a message, since it would be very likely that it would be monitored.

Why would the most cluttered frequency in existance be monitored by anyone, much less broadcast on by anyone?

You're viewing it like shouting in a crowded room, which is not the case at all.
See, in a crowded room, everybody is speaking at different volumes and tones, and it's hard to hear anyone because of all that interference.
In space, in the hydrogent frequency, it's like everybody is making the same noise.

SO, if you suddenly make a DIFFERENT noise, it's really easy to pick out.

We don't know, but as long as they're not speaking Hydrogen, we'll hear 'em.

Even if they are speaking on the hydrogen bands, we'll hear them.
Suppose the normal background noise is represented by dots. Normally, what we hear would be:
.........................................................................
Not really much there but the normal hiss with the occasional spike from some event (marked off by the underlines). However, if we were to hear this:
.........|.........|.........|.........|.........|.........|.........|.........|.........
Then that would be noticeable. It's kind of like being in a crowded room where hundreds of people are whispering to each other, and then someone comes in with an air horn. It's pretty distinct against the background noise.
As for what they'd use... Dunno. Maybe they'd start by counting. Maybe they would send off a few basic forumulae after that, and then progress to something more complex.
If I show up at your door, chances are you did something to bring me there.

How would we know that they even have a similar math system? We assume that everyone must have a similar math structure mecause we say so, but what if they don't? We're accustomed to a base system, and even assuming they use something similar like base 16 or even 13 or whatever, it could affect their math greatly. The reason why it doesn't for us is that we work off of the base 10 system for all of our calculations.
Even assuming their calculations are similar, whats to say that their operations are? they may not even use multiplication or division, but something else entirely. Who knows.
Think about it, and you'll realize that communication is probably even harder than you could normally imagine.
